the tobacco crop makes Florence one

are other markets which handle

there is mope tobacco ra'sed around
them* there, is certain!v no better
equipped market In the state for the
quick and safe handling of the crop
than is Florence. The new stemmery
and packing houses put the finishing
touches on the Florence tobacco mar
ket. While the crop Is shorter this*
year than It was last, still the local
tohi^conists propose to make Flor
ence the leader in the state. Tney
propose going, after the tobacco busi
ness this ‘year as never before, being

the crop. They expect the larges!
corps of buyers ever sent to the Flor
once market and expect to push Flor
ence over the top as the market of
the state Where the golden weed will
bring' the highest dollar every day in

been treated. During the entire year
of 1919, there were 374 cases treat
ed, so that the number of cases j
for the first six months of 1920 is al-
most equal to the. total number treat
ed during 1919.
One hundred and forty-five heads
of animals suspected of having rabies
must be directed toward this animal
for a sufficient time to cover the tn-i
cubatioii period of the disease.
In Norway, says this butVptin, thej

put because of the strict laws about
tlm muzzling of dogs. Great Britahi j
had been free from the disease for
years but became infected a year
ago. Tim infection is said to have
bo£n caused by an aviator who broke
the quarantine rules by bringing a
dog from France in his airplane.

mad dogs are to he feared most dur
ing the summer months, the records
show that this disease is more wide
spread during the fat! months Tho
general belief that persons bitten by
a dog or any other animal that after
wards contracts rabies will develop
hydrophobia is a fallacy says a bul
letin on the disease. Records show
that only those persons who are bit
ten by an animal that is actually
rabid at the time of the biting are
in danger of .cpntraci:ng the disease.
The bite of a rabid animal is not!
necessarily fatal, the virus is esti-l
mated to he transmitted in about 30 j
