Usual Reductions, For Two
Weeks, on all Straw Hats.
t
With June, the influence of Summer is felt more and more in Millinery. In the
early Spring one chooses the more tailored hat, now one selects the hat that
will look well with the summer frock. We have an unusual showing of all kinds
of straws an dfor the next two weeks these hats will be placed on sale at greatly
reduced prices. k

'I TO TEACH bLINO TO DRAW
English Id** is That Art May Hsip
ths Sightless to Communivkt*
With Outeid? World,
One of the rafi&y experiments of the
Royal Drawing society has been to
leach people to draw by touch. The
pupil Is blindfolded and feels a simple
rhope, like a hammer of a spade, and
draws It vvlih bis eyes open. An ad
vanced pupil has drawn the bead of a
classical bust and the mask of Bee
thoven.
These experiments fired Mr. C. B.
Aldett, tlm director of the society, with
Mm idea of drawing by Mie blind. He
bus devised a medium which looks like
the frosted -stuff on a matchbox made
liquid, by which the draughtsman can
follow by tomb wbai.be has drawn
and correct or add lo bis work. So far
there have been no experiments with a
blind pupil.
Mr. Ablett does not claim for it more
than that a blind man can draw the
plan or a design of something he
wishes io record and explain. A blind
gardener has been known to go into
ecstasies over the unfolding shapes of
a plant, and the drawing of-these
shapes, known to him by touch would
undoubtedly give him a form of f»-
thetie pleasure. In any case, it would
increase his meatis of eomninnlruting
with the outside world.
A great boon, if the method ts prac
ticable. would he that It would enable
the blind to write and to read writ*
ing.—Manchester Guardian.

Airplanca Wilt Aid Mining.
It Is predicted thpr ihe airplane and
*the dirigible will provg a great stim
ulus to ihe mining industry in pre
senting a means of getting material
and men to and from location* which
are known lo be rich with ore and
which are at the present time inacces
sible. There nre many sm-h places
known lo exist, hui the eost of build
ing a roadway to them would be so
great ns to be prohibitive. Attention
to this phase of the subject ha v been
recently attracted by a report made
by Doctor Lyon, supervisor of The
mining slations for Ihe United States
bureau of mines. By this mean* a
regular communication could he main
tained with sections which are not to
he reached by any ordinary meana.
It is also suggested that the same
means might he of great value for
getting rescue apparatus to the scene
of mining disasters.
Where Big Industry Began.
The dilapidated old shack, atlll
standing at Eastpurt. Me., Is of■ inter
est by reason of its being the startlnr^-
place of the great American sardine
industry.
The experiment of converting the
small herring into ihe canned sardine
was tried out in this factory, huilt for
that purpose by .liilius Wolff, a Rus
sian. and oilier New York promoters
nearly forty years ago. At tbni time
ihe picturesque weirs, in which the
fish arc seined, usually joined the fac
tory properly.
From its birth, in this small factory,
sardine canning has developed to al
most ihe chief industry on Hie Maine
coast, employing thousands of skilled
workers each season, and has placed
Last port on the map as one of the
most important fishing port* in ithe
country.

: \
The other day we invited young men who are going
to vote for the first time next Fall to show their in
terest in Florence by making an investment in
'. Florence reo.1 estate. ,
#
We are gn.tlfied at the attention the Invitation re
ceived. The young fellows have come around In
goodly numbers and many of them have arranged to
buy lots, some of them with buildings.
We hear that a good many young men have bought
lots from other realty brokers. That pleases us
too. We believe in Florence real estate, no matter
who sells It. We are delighted that our advertising
helps our neighbors too.
We have been reminded that there nre some other
citizens who have been voting for several elections
whose names do not appear on the list of real es
tate taxpayers. ^ g
i That’s right. And the older ones are not going to be
overlooked. . v - - . • .
• * *•
We Will Find Lots For Them.
^ We may not have enough desirable pieces of proper
ty on our lists to supply the demand all at once but
we make it a point to find it if It is to be had.
And right here we invite all owners of available
properties to list them with us. Some yothig or old
or middleaged citizen is sure to want them find they
will i-ome to Headquarters to get them.
