Heyward practi- eally demonstrated a great lesson to all South Carolinians, in his market ing expedition in Columbia one day this week, when he set out in search of food stuffs raised and manufactur ed or canned in South Carolina. He visited six of the leading gro cery stores of the capital city of the state, inquired at each for a score or more of articles, such as potatoes, corn, beans, peas, syrup etc, raised and canned In South Carolina. He was unable to buy one single article hearing a South Carolina trade mark. What is true of Columbia is like wise true of Florence, and every other town in South Carolina. Later he llled similar positions in several of the smaller colleges of Pennsylvania and Ohio, returning to the University ot Pennsylvania in 1888. Ten years liter he was chosen vice-provost of the university and in 1911 he succeed fed Charles C. Harrison as provost.
