Mra. J. W. Stroud and Mrs. N W
Hicks entertained at a charming tea
on Thursday afternoon, in honor of
Mrs. W. E. Stroud, of Goldsboro, N.
C, and Mrs K. M. Hicks, Jr., the lat
ter a recent bride.
The reception was held at the
heme of Dr and Mrs. Hicks, and the
beautiful house was at Its loveliest
in Us decorations of pink. The cheer
ful rosy shade of “Dorothy Perkins”
was the color scheme carried out in a
peculiarly skillful and satisfying
fashion In every detail.
The rooms were lighted by pink
shaded chandeliers, all the lights hav
ingj shades of pink crepe tissue, and
being decorated wltn showers of pink
crepe r in the knots of which were tiny
Dorothy Perkins roses. The pink
lights suffused the. whole “with a sofi
and lovely tint that made the effect
just a bit dreamy anc unreal.
The roses were used with a telling
effect, hut with such faultless tasK-
and glare that there was no heavi-
^oss, but only th' 1 satisfying sense of
being just enough to be very beauti
ful. There was no conventional de
sign, but, just graceful sprays and
feMoons. used with tact and tine re
straint.
Mrs. Stroud and Mrs. Hicks ‘were
assisted by many of taelr friends? Ai
the front door,, one was met by Mrs.
Jno. A. Chase, and Mrs. John R.
Webster At the drawing room doors
were Mrs J. W. Ragsdale and Mrs
Earle Martin.
Thence one passed on to be greeted
by the receiving line, Mrs. N. W.
Hicks, Mrs. E. M. Hicks, Jr., Mrs J.i
W. Stroud, Mrs \V. K. Stroud. Mrs
Fitz Lee, Mrs Angle, Mrs Janies
Williams, Mrs. Adolph Lynch, Mrs.
Charles Marsh. Mrs. "W. C. Blount, Jr
and Mrs J. N. McBride.
At the dining room door were Mrs
Marion D. Lucas, and Mrs.. John
Gregg MoMaster, while in charge of
the dining room were Mrs. Richard
King and. Mrs. Ken Covington. Here
pretty little demoiselles served de
licious hospitality in the form of
pink ice cream and pink cake, little
Misses Mary Elizabeth Hicks, Mary
King, Dorothy Chase, Margaret Pfo-
hfe. Cynthia Waters and Grace Will
iams saw to it that no guest departed
unrefreshed, while tiny Dorothy
Hicks passed around the delicious
mints, that looked like the petals of
a big La France rose and lasted as
good as they looked.
One passed next to the library
door to be received by Mrs. M. L.
Brockington, Mrs. J. D Smyser. Here
Mrs. X- B. Haynsworth and Mrs D. E.
Fraser saw that ttie guests were
served at either of the two punch
fowls—one in charge of Mrs. E. L.
Oulla and Mrs. J. D.’GHland, the
other presided over bv Mrs. D. T.
Riley and Mrs. F. K Lake
At the hall door were Mrs. J.D
Murchison and Mi’s Charles Ducket,
while in the hall Miss ’Jessie Gregg
played orchestral selections on the
victrola.
The occasion was a happy and very
informal one—every body had on a
pretty gown and the pink shaded
lights worked wonders of becomlng-
uess. More than four hundred g’uest.s
called during the “liours of the recep
tion and all carried home beautiful
memories and recollections of a cor
dial greeting and some very happy
moments. *
