The Times regrets the resignation
of VV. L. Brooker as head of the Flor
ence public schools. For ten years
Mr. Brooker has conducted the
schools of Florence and the degree
of his success is to be measured ity
the results he has acnieved. That
ih'ese are gratifying may be judged j
pot only by the high standard which
the. schbols occupy in relation to'
other systems in this and other
stales, hht by the records of the boys
and gjtls whe leaving the High
school here have entered colleges of
high standard. The citizens, too, at
numerous public meetings have un
qualifiedly expressed their satisfaction
and approval. As an organizes and
executive Mr. Brooker ranks first
ahaong' school men in this state, and
as an educator his reputation is en
viable. In this department of the
Work he has few equals and this
qualification has enabled him to ac
complish good work at times when
the* difficulties seemed almost insur*
mountable The loyalty accorded
hlfB by his teachers has always been
a - matter of comment in school cir
cles. During his stay in Florence
many changes have taken place in
thte. schools but the step has always
