rrangement to Furnish Farmers
With Weather Probabilitic;
The Kansas Agricultural college
has announced that it will fittlns]! the
weather forecasts to every Kansas
fanner by wireless telegraph. The
farmer will he required to iustull an
amateur wireless set with which to
receive the forecast. These sets mst
about $."•"> each and can be operated
by any person. They cannot be used
for sending messages for any con
siderable distances but tltey will re
ceive the powerful messages of the
big plants. The forecasts are to be
sent out at fl :'i.j each morning undet
a standard code and the wave
length of 375 meters, short enough for
any amateur set to take. This wave
length is also long enough and the
college plant Is powerful enough so
ihnl the message will reach every
point In the state. The forecast will
| be sent at the rate of 18 words n
‘ minute and then repealed at 10 words
I a minute. The service-is to be given
free to every farmer, high school,
or to any oilier person or institu
tion having a wireless set. The high
schools in the small communities are
to distribute the forecast to the banks
and stores and to the telephone com
panies. The knowledge of the prob
able weather is of considerable Im-

vest and haying season, and to stock
men during tin* winter, for they can
make preparations for feeding and
sheltering stock upon knowing of an
approaching storm.

Remarkable Trip That Is Taken hy
Travelers on Their Way to Key
West, Florida.

ocean trip which can be made on a
railroad train, writes “Xlksals" in the
Chicago News. They go to Key West
by way of the line which runs through
the Atlantic ocean on an embankment
built from one to another of those tiny
Islands known as the Florida keys.
As you ride along this remarkable
railroad, you look out the window and
down into the clear shallow water and
see great schools of fish playing near
the surface, and deeper down you can
glimpse now and then the shadowy
form of 11 small shark. On either side
of ym reaches away to the horizon a
vast expanse of brilliant blue water,
dolled with islands, which vary In size
from a fraction of an acre, to perhaps
a quarter of a square mile. They are
low and fial and covered with low-
growing mangroves, and other swamp
plants. Here and there a group of
coconuts or royal palms lifts a feath
ery silhouette. Occasionally a little
shack is glimpsed, and a few fliils are
seen In the distance, hut for the most
part the region is a wilderness of blue
water, while sand and low-growing
jungle—a wilderness that you would
love to e\| lore lit a small boat.

while (locks of ibises rise from the is
lands; a tree duck spatters clumsily
away from the train, or a great blue
heron trails his legs in lonely dignity
