FLORENCE MARBLE
WORKS
Wt . hington, April l\—A review cf
tb * population figures of the 449
cities and towns f/tus far announced
was made public ' today by the cen
ms bureau. Comparative figures
for 429 of thijp. places in the last
two decades show u 6.5 decline in the
percentage of increase from 1910 t
1920 as con? pared with the 28.1 pm
cent gain during the preceding de
cade. i
The ro'.nalning 21 places represon
cities or towns which were not exist
ing as separate communities in 1900
but Ivive since organized and become
incorporated and comparative fig
itrce were not announced.
T, p to and Including yesterday’s
i’.r.nouiicemcnt the review showed an
f ggregate population of 10.05V15,
ar increase of 1.780,272 over 1910, or
21.9 per cent.
Falling off in the percentage of
increase for the p’aoes announced
was largely due to the “check to im
migration which resulted from the
world ■war.’’ said Director Rogers,
of the bureau. The total immigrn
tton to the United States for the last
ten years, lie said, showed a decrease
of 3.264.000 compared with the pre
ceding decade.
The recent influenza epidemic also
probably had some effect in retard
ing the nntura 1 increase of popula
tion. Mr. Rogers said.
