On $2,000 Bond
C. L. Kelley, a prominent white
man froni the Hartsviile section of
Darlington county, was arrested this
week on a Federal warrant charging
hfjn with transporting an automobile
which he knew to be stolen in int' 5 ”
state commerce. He was released o.i
a $2,000 bond and will be given a
preliminary hearing within the next
few days.

A. B. Kaiserman, Jr., aged thirteen
months, the only child of Mr. and Mrs
A. B. Kelserman, died last night aft
er an illness of only a few days. IT's
condition becoming suddenly worse
yesterday, t,he child was taken to the
Florence Infirmary where it passed
away despite the heroic efforts of ihe
physicians. The funeral serlces will
he held tomorrow afternoon at the
First Baptist church at four o’clock

Two negroes were committed to the
county jail yesterday. Edgar Virgil
Horn near Tunmqnsvliie shot a negro
name Sam Green. The shooting wart
done with a shot gun and the negro
was shot in the face. Just how seti-
ous his wounds are is not known,

shooting is the result of alleged famil
iaty between the negro who did the
shooting and the wife of the negro
who was shot. The crime was com
mitted at the’ home of the defend
ant and he himself was shot with

The other negro, Jon Williams, ar
rested and placed in jail came fropi

and batt’ery with intent to kill. Hu

Yviipum chandler, the white man
who was arrested sometime ago in
Darlington for forging bills of ladings
will be taken to Augusta tonight ny
Deputy Marshall T. C. Thornton, of
*jf Columbia where will be tried on a
similar charge in the Goregia dis
trict. He says that he has no de-
tense and will plead guilty to the
charge. He claims to be from Bos-
totn and says he has a wife and six
children, claiming his oldest girl will
graduate from the Boston High School
in une and his baby boy has just re
covered from an attack of pneumonia.
He declares the Florence jail is well
kept and that he never received more
com iderate treatment at the hands of
jailers than he has shown during his
confinement here.
