fid, "all jret
ready for the
party. Wear your
best clothes. Don’t
forget that King
Foam Is coming to
dinner first, and
that we’re to have
the party after
ward.’’
So the waves
and the sea fair
ies, and all the
children of Mother
Ocean got ready
for the party.
They put on their
best party dresses
of blue with
"How Do You Do?" sparkling sea dia
monds for orna
ments, How gay and beautiful they
did look, and Mother Ocean, came out
dressed up as tinely as could be with
the loveliest and the most dazzling
dress ever you or I saw before.
At last it was time for King Foam
to appear.
“How do you do. Mother Ocean?” he
said as he arrived.
‘Honored to see jou, sir.” said Moth
er Ocean.
And all the waves rind sea fairies
said: “Honored to see you, sir.”
“We are going to dine first." said
Mother Ocean, *‘And we have tried
to prepare a repast which will please
you."
She smiled at King Foam the love
liest smile you ever saw. It was such
a beautiful smile, so dazzling ami so
gay and so happy and so bright that
it was enough to make the whole
world feel bright and happy and merry
and gay if they could have seen it,
and all those who did see It were
smiling and saying:
“Did you ever in your life see such
a beautiful day?”
It was all because of Mother Ocean's
party and her smiles.
“We’ll have the music start now,”
said Mother Ocean, “and it will play
throughout the dinner, too.”
She gave a low call and then the
music began. It was beautiful music,
and the musicians were all hidden In
their little stage right under the top
of the water.
They played the most beautiful
tunes, sometimes they were jolly and
merry and some of them were sad and
almost made you feel like weeping, and
others were just of beautiful sounds
put together in a beautiful way. Every
thing they played, though, was beau
tiful.
And sometimes they sang as they
played, songs which went like this:
Thr music of th* ocean la scry, very deep.
It will aometlmea make you smile and aome-
trmea make you weep.
It will be so wild one moment you'll think
it should be dropped.
And then ’twill be so beautiful you'll rejoice
it wasn't stopped.
And another song was: • *
We love to sins for Mother Oceans party.
-And for ail her fcOest* so hale and hearty
We love to sins for gpod old King Koam
And all who over the ocean roam. •
They sat down to dinner and had a
delicious meal of seaweed of the tinest
kind, sea moss, and many other sea
vegetables and greens.
They drank sea water and also had
dishes of whipped cream made by King
Foam’s subjects.*
After the dinner was over, which,
by the way, was served in green gob
lets and upon sea green china. Mother
Ocean said the party would continue,
or perhaps we should say ^ she said it
would begin!
All the fairies and the sea eseature*
hurried a little djstanee along from
where the dinner
hud been given,
and (hen back
they came bring
ing an enormous
raft with Ihem—a
great big board
which was float
ing in the water.
Then they be
gan to play and
to dance, and al
ways upon the
raft. and of
course it would
turn over and
over again in the
breakers, because
everyone was try
ing to get the
other off!
They played
ball, too, while standing on top of
the raft, but they never stood there
very long before they were dropped off
into dear old Mother Ocean's lap.
They had logs which the very young
er ones at the party used as floats,
and there were boards all painted up
iu a most beautiful fashion to tide
upon over the breakers.
Oh, what a game uud a frolic they
had, and all dressed up in their best,
too! Hut they only looked the more
beautiful as they played the harder,
and when It was all over how glad
Mother Ocean was that she had given
a party and how glad everyone also
was, too!
An Enormous Haft.
That Settles It.
