Two to the Gang
In the Magistrate’s Court today
William Samoman, a negro, said to
have been connected with the cir
cus, was found guilty of disorderly
conduct and resisting an officer when
arrested. He was sentenced to 30
days for each charge.
James Bryant, charged with disor--
derly conduct by Officers J. B. Cain
and Rose* who made the arrest, was
also sentenced to 30 days on the chain
gang.

Mr. Ragsdale died about the time of
the recent race riots in Washington
He visited the offices’ of his Washing

pired. The coroner of the District of
Columbia held an autopsy and render
ed a verdict that the deceased came
to his death from “acute dilation of
the heart.
It was just about the same time
that Mr- Byrnes made a spech on the
floor of the house n the negro ques
tion. Shortly after this speech he be
gan fo receive many insulting letters
frpm anonymous writers throughout
th* country and although they threi-
eqed to “get even with him,’> none of
them went quite so far as to say that
he would receive the same measure
of treatment as that wrfich the “socie
ty had just meted out’ to his colleague
the late Congressman Ragsdale.
Secret Service Men.Active.
Mr. Byrnes took the matter before
the government authorities and it is
understood that secret service men
have been on the trail of the anony
mous writers and that some of them
may be landed behind the bars as a
result of the investigation:

to frighten Mr. Byrnes and others who
may think as he does concerning the
negro question.

ST. JOHN’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH.
There will be a celebration of the
Holy Communion at St. John’s to
morrow morning at 8: at which time
prayer and Thanksgiving wiil be of
fered in behalf of the Triennial Con
vention of the Episcopal Church now
in session in the city of Detroit.
It is planned to have a similar ser
vice in every parish and mission in
this Diocese at this same hour, it be
ing the hour for the presentation of
the offering at the General Conven
tion.

every member of the congregation who
possibly can, will attend this service
and join in the prayers of the Church
for those who are '^ow assembled in
Council, to discuss and transact busi
ness of great importance to the future

Birds Driven by Storms.
Certain instances of birds found
singly far to the north of their usual
range are possibly to be explained by
the whirl of cyclonic storms. The
wind, turning counter clockwise, blows
oft shore In the south and carries the
bird out to .ses. But, sooner or later,
if the bird has the good fortune to
last out the experience, the farther
spin of the storm tends to bring him
ashore again.
