$200.00 Cash Prizes for the best answers
You never saw me, folks, did yoif, without the famous kettle on my tail?
Everybody wonders why it’s there. Well I’ve ncver'bold the secret yet, but now I’m going:
to give everybody who reads this a chance to guess it, and at the same time win one of a
number of liberal money prizes. Come one, come all! — Help solve the great mystery I
Here’s how to win:
First, there’s no string on this contest. Anybody
interested in horses or mules is urged to send in an
answer. All I ask is that you don’t use more than
100 words, and that you be sure to mention
“Checkerboard Bags’* (in which Purina Feeds are
always packed). Now, don’t be afraid—come on
in everybody! The best answers take the prizes—
regardless of fancy language or swell handwriting.
Plain “Horse Sense’’ ideas on a post card may win.
Second, sign your name plainly, and also tell me
the name of your feed dealer. ^
Third, mail your guess on or before National Maud
Ihirina Day. That is February 25th. — I selected
it specially because my favorite feed, Purina
O-Molcne, saves my owner 25% of his feed.
Purina O-Molene is wonderful feed for mules and
horses. I know, ’cause I’m a mule myself. It is
economical, because I like it, and assimilate all of
it tliat I eat. I never have trouble digesting ail of
my O-Molene. Also, it makes me husky and
healthy, so that I can do more work for my owner.
Now then, here are the prizes:
For the best answer the prize will be ,$100.00
For the next best answer the prize will be $25.00
For the next best answer the prize will be $10.00
To the dealer whose customer wins 1st prizc$S0.00
To the dealer wWose customer wins 2nd prize $10.00
To the dealer whose customer wins 3rd prize $5.00
The judges will be:
WALKER HILL, President Mechanics-American Na
tional Bank, St. Louis, Mo.
A. G. WHITE. Advertising Manager, Brown Shoe Co..
St Louis, Mo
WM. H. DANFORTn, President and founder ot the
Purina Mills, St. Louis, Mo.
The winning answers will be mailed
to you on or before March 25th.

The February meeting of the Flor

an encouraging attendance . After
a hymn and the devotional, various
plans were discussed for putting mon

Rummage Sale next Saturday. Quite
a nice letter was read from Miss Mit

thanking the members for the Christ
mas remambrance. The different
committees gave good reports, and
specially the personal service shown
to the sick during the recent epide

The members were pleased to wel
come Mrs. H. H. Husbands and Mrs.
Geo Laughlin, guests from Emanuel

After adjournment, a social hour
was very pleasantly passed, the hos

The reviews of medicine and vet*
erinary surgery speak of important
researches looking to the cure of glan
ders, which afflicts horses and may
also attack man, who almdst Invaria
bly succumbs.
At the beginning of the war the
spread of glanders, especially among
the quadrupeds of the Third Italian
army, suggested to Colonel Command
ing Dr. E. Bertettl, director of the
veterinary service of the army, the
Idea of utilizing the victims of glan
ders In making experiments In regard
to its curability.
Obtaining permission of the war
ministry and the supreme command
of the army, the experiments were be
gun at Caorle in a sanitarium rigorous
ly quarantined and equipped with all
the latest scientific and surgical ap
pi lances.
Dr. Guido Finzl, head of the Instl-
sute of Pathology and Med tot I Clinics
of the Superior Veterinary School of
Turin, assisted Doctor Bertettl. After
two years they announced that glan
ders was curable, not only in its chron
ic stages but also in its process of evo
lution.
The importance of the discovery and
the evidence of the results obtained
led the two experimenters to ask for
a commission to make practical tests
of their discoveries. The results fully
confirmed the facts announced by Doc
tors llertetti and Finzl.
