General Assembly providing for tne i construction of permanent highways i in South Carolina, this state wilt lo.se $1,167,735.05 ogered, by the Fed feral government to state contingent V)n the state spending a like amount on permanent highways. This fact is staring members ot the General Assembly in tho face, also the fact that the people of Sourn Carolina are helping to pay for roads that are being built in other states through Federal aid. The House of Representatives Tues day night killed legislation looklm* to the construction of permanent 'highways. With the session only ten jdays at most to run, and realizing That not one hand had been lifted to the lifting of the state out of tho .mud, the members of the House yc* terday seemed to suddnly awaken to the fact something would have to Be done and done quick, or also that state would lose the Federal Aid and also that the people of the Stale who had been looking to them for relief from the mud would be terribly disappointed. / The House members got to gether •yesterday with the result that new legislation was framed and every effort will be made to rush through both houses. The demand for better roads is so strong and insistent that the mem, bers do not feel inclined to return to their homes without having taken some steps to better them.
