VOLUME V.
The 6th of this month ended the
Fourth volume of the Florence
Daily Times. In entering on the
fifth volume, the Times desires to
express to its supporters, subscrib
ers iintl advertisers, sincere thanks
for their encouragement and pat
ronage, and in. this the Wginninj
of a new volume, to ask their ait
in making it a paper worthy of the
ambition and enterprise of the eo*
p'e of Florence and the county at
large.
We have fount 1 that there is a
<3 majid lor a daily paper. The
city of Florence would indignantly
t] ny that it cannot support one,
y< t while the people feel (his way,
v.e fear that they fail to icali/e
that this implies individual interest
in promoting the paper on the part
» every one. Not that we ask
tneir patronage without considera-
t on, but that every dollar of in-
c Ta.-e l support enables us to do
1 eitei for thorn. This is a truth.
Tin: Times has struggled, it is
s’rng; ling still, hut it is hereto
stay. It has no idea of giving up
the light, and, as it goes out from
day to day, shall work for and
glory in the growth of Florence
and the prosperity of her people.
THEY \V \ NT THE HONOR, in; r NOT
THE HUUMTAlfCK.

nVwheru, among the high and the
low, in the conduct of nations as
well as that of individuals.

caught cold, which settled on her

by her family physician, but grew
worse. He told her she was a
hopeless victim of consumption
and that no medicine could cure
her. Her drmrgist Miggested Dr.

l J . E. Butler, of pack-train No.
3, writing from Santiago, deCuba,
on July 23d, says; ‘•YVe all had
diarrhoea in more or less violent
form, and when we landed we had
no time to see a 1 doctor, for it was
a case of rush and rush night and
day’ to keep the troops supplied
with ammunition and radons, but
thanks to Chamberlain's Colic
Cholera and 1 diarrhoea Remedy,
we were able to keep at work and
keep our health ; in fact, 1 sincere
ly believe that at one critical time
this medicine was the indirect
saviour of our army, for if the
packers had been unable to work
there would have l^jen no way of
getting supplies to lie front There
were no roads that t wagon train
could use My comrade and my
self had the good iotune to lay in
a supply of this medicine for our
pack-train before we left Tampa,
and I know in four c*es it abso
lutely saved life.’’
