a thinness of about l-lOOOth of an inch
are obtained for microscopic study.
Professor Elmer Gates of Washington
has now gone further, and even slices
up blood cells and microbee by cement
ing them in a single layer between two
glass Hifiies and cutting slides apart
with a very thin blade of copper sharp
ened to the highest possible degree.
The cells are again cut by repeating
the operation, and it is claimed that
slices have been made only l-100th as
thick as the thinnest produced by the

The wife of the Ray. A. R. Adams, past
of the Bedford Christian Church at Blai
insviile, 111., was for years compelled
