• The prohibition movement has
scored a point.
The game, however, has just be
gun, but there is a striking signifi
cance in the point they have
gained.
It has been a mooted question as
to whether or not the prohibition
ists could run a regular ticket
inside the Democratic party. The
State Democratic executive com-
mittee decided last night that they
couln.
An effort, probably unintentional,
was made to divert the decision
from the direct query, but the com
mittee expressed itself unqualified
ly on the point of law, and a
number of the members declared
themselves iu favor of and would
support prohibiton.
It was also decided to call the
May convention. 4
The following resolution pre
sented and adopted settled the pro
hibition matter:
“Resolved, That it is the sense
of this committee that any Demo
crat, however soggeeted, who com
plies with the rules of the Demo-*! would recede
cratio party by filling his pledge
in tbe form required by the con
stitution and rales of the party, is
entitled to run iu the State Demo
cratic primary and tn have the
votes cast for him coanted.”—

lic men hovered between these
two propositions and favored a
compromise. Tt^pre was no defi
nite lead by which could be stated
with anything like authoritative-
uess which course would be adept-
ed, but the unsettled state of pub
lic opinion on the matter indica
ted that events of the next few
dayr—the strength of the argu
ments of the forthcoming presi
dential message or a distinct ut
terance from our consul general to
Cuba might be strong enough to
incline the balance to either
coarse.
The cabinet held its usual Fri
day session, but its meeting
brought no change in the Spanish
situation. Indeed, it was chiefly
significant in establishing that no
change had occurred, that none
was expected and that the pro
gramme of action on the part of
the United States government was
already made up. The president’s
message remains unaltered, and
this being the last cabinet day be
fore now and Monday, barring al
together unexpected developments
from Madrid. After the meeting,
cabinet officers stated that the
message would be sent to congress
on Monday, no change iu that re
spect having been considered, and
all causes for delay hiving been
removed. The feeling to that end
had come to diplomatic talk, and
that action alone remained, was
shared in all quarters, including
the foreign embassies and lega
tions, where tbe ambassadors and
ministers expressed the feeling
that all has been done iu Wash
ington that can or will be done in
the causs of peace. What is going
on at Madrid gives slight hope of
such concessions there as will altar
the. present situation. There aie
no negotiations in the sense of ex
changes on pending propositions-
Both parties apparently have sa'd
their last word concerning the re
spective propositioos. Certainly
this is true as totheUuitedStates,
and there were no evidences to
day* that the Spanish government
would recede. It is even doubtful
whether a concession of au i rmis-
tice by Spain wqnld be sufficient
at thia late moment to tarn the
situation into peaceful channels.

Action of the Hoard of Visit or* of II,r
Citadel Academy.
Charleston, April 8 —Tbe State’s
forecast of the outcome of the in
vestigation of the board of visitors
of the South Carolina Millitary
academy came to piss th s after
noon when 64 cadets wi re dismiss
ed from the CitaiM. The board
met at 10 o’jlock this morning and
was in session until 2 o’clock, when
it adjourned to meet again at 4
o’clock. It met simply to declare
its findings, which was done in a!
few minutes. The cadets were as
sembled and the decision of the
hoard was announced to them.
The expected demonstration did
not take place. They received the
news of the expulsion of more
than one-half of their number
with absolute sileuct^. Tl$e cadets
whom the' re port *Trffel5T^(r were
given two hours to pack their
trunks and leave the Citadel.
At 8 o’clock to-night the corps
had dwindled down to 62 boys and
many of the rooms of the barracks
are empty.
The work of the Citadel will go
on as usual and it is sale to say
that better discipline will be main
tained.
The ringleaders of last Monday’s
outbreak have given trouble, it is
said, ever since they entered the
walls of the Citadel aud their ab
sence will be salutary to the well
being and good order of the State’#
military institution.
The expulsion of the cadets was
looked for. The number dismissed
would not have been so large had
not the cadets all agreed to “do or
die together-” They all claimed
equal responsibility in the revolt
and refused to take advantage of
any’ extenuating circumstances.
The dismissal of the cadets ot the
third and fourth classes is not ab
solute aud they may apply for re-
admission at the next meeting of
the board.—The State.
A Nntril Atlnnin Cur.
For four years I have been af
flicted with a very troublesome
nasal catarrh. So terrible has its
nature been that when I blew my
nose small pieces of bone would
frequently coma out of my mouth
and nose. The discharge was
copious, and at times very offen
sive. Mv blond became so impure
that my general health was greatly
impaired, with poor appetite and
worse digestion. Numerous med
icines were used without relief,
until I began the use of Botanic
Blood Balm—B. B. B.—and three
bottles acted almost like magic.
Since its use, over a year, not a
symptom has returned, and I feel
in every way quite restored in
health. I am an old oitisen of
