gressman in the Sixth district is
to be held ou the 12th inst, to
morrow week. As yet no Repub
lican candidate has appeared in
the field and it seems pretty cer
tain that Comptroller General
Norton, the nominee of the Demo*
cratic party, will not have any
opposition at all- He will not re
sign bis position as comptroller
until the reeult of the election is
declared. He is endeavoring to
get evtfything in the office in
shape t%tnrn it over to hie suc
cessor. *_
In the\ieantime the number ot
applicantlkfor appointment to the
position now holds on the
State ticket are rapidly multiply
ing. A good many have filed ap
plications for the appointment,
