DIVINE. Gan’) Manager. Gen’lSnpt, K. BORDEN, Supt. Transportation. lu an interview published in the News and Courier this morn ing Senator McLaurin expresses great satisfaction at the removal of the metropolitan police from Charleston. In so speaking he gives the sentiments of the whole "people of South Carolina. The towns now have their op portunity and let them use it well. In their hands is the duty of en forcing the dispensary law, a law as much as any other law, and al their energies and facilities shoulc be used for the purpose of break ing up and preventing the illicit sale of liquor. iihtft.H I'niln-ellas. (From the W’eatmlnister Gazette.) It is rumored that before long glass umbrellas will be in genera use—that is, umbrellas covered with the new spun glass cloth. These, of course, will afford no protect'on from the rays of the sun, but they will possess one obvious advantage, narnelv; that they can be held in f -ont of the face when meeting the wind and rain, and at the same time the user will l>e able to see 'hat he does not run into unoffending indi viduals or lamp posts. But what say the lovers—the seaside holiday lovers—who are to lie seen on eveyy beach round the coast, with their backs to the cliff or a handy boat, an unfurled old-style umbrella in front of them, leaving nothing to the ga/ > of the inquisitive save the souls of their lour shoes? Surely they will revolt against the innovation. ATLANTIC COAST LINE. Wilmington, Columbia and Augusta R. R CONDENSED SCHEDULE. TRAINS GOING SOUTH Dated Sept.
