President F. C. Woodward of
the South Carolina College and
Mrs. Woodward passed through
Florence last night on their way to
Columbia. The college opens on
Tuesday of next week and the
prospects are bright for a large at

New Orleans, Sspt. 24.—Emi-
meut physicians believe that the
work of the board of health is pro
ductive of good results aud that
the fever ie not spreading, but, on
the contrary, is being confined to
localities. Thus far there have
been a few lees than one hundred
oaaes and fiteen deaths. The
death rate is in the neighborhood
of 15 per cent. It wae in 1878 16
cent. So that up to the present
time the disease is about as viru
lent as it was iu the last great ep
idemic that visited New Orleans.
Yesterday there were three new
cases aud ten deaths.
AT MOBILE.
Mobile, Ala., Sept. 24.—There
have been three death* and three
new casee since the report handed
out yesterday at 2 o’clock.
The bulletin to-day says 41

will preach at the Baptist church
to-morrow at 11 a. m., and at 8

Rev. J. H. Dixon, the pastor,
will preach at the Presbyterian
church at 11 a- m. and at night
at 8 p. m. Sunday School at the
usual hour.
Holy Mass will be celebra
ted at 8t. Anthony's Catholic
church at 10 o’clock. Father
Laycock will preach on “The
Church that Christ Established.”
In the afternoon at five o’clock
the League of the Sacred Heart
will be canonically established.
The Lutherau congregation will
hold services at Kuker’s hall in
the morning at 11 o’clock and
at night at 8 o’clock. Rev.
Mr. Rieer, of Newberry, will con
duct both services. Sunday school
at 4 o’clock in the afternoon.
At St. John’s Episcopal church,
the regular Lay Reading service
will be held in the morning at 11
o’clock. At 8 p. m.. Rev. J. M.
Magruder will preach. Sunday
school at 5 p. m.
