Purvis, the condemned murderer,
in*his cell this moraing and found
him in a weak physical condition.
He is undoubtedly a very sick
man, though he talks in a clear,
steady voice, without any indicv
tion that he realizes the awful fate
which so soon awaits him. He
looks like a man in the last stage of
consumption, though his eyes
shone brightly through the clouds
of smoke which he blew from a
cigarette while lyiag in his ham
mock talking unconcernedly of his
approaching death. When asked
if he wished to make a statement
through the paper, he said he had
nothing to say, except that he did
not do the shooting for which he
was convicted. He said that his
whole time from now until the day
of execution would be occupied in
preparing himself to meet his
maker but, that, nevertheless, he
hopes for something from the
Supreme Court or clemency from
the Governor.
Rev. Dr. Nash and Rsv. Mr.
Parkar called to see him this
morniog and offered spiritual con*
lation. Ho appeared to take in
terest in what they said.
Purvis’ attorneys, who gave no
tice of an appeal to the Supreme
court, will probably arrive
this week to consult with the;
oner it is said.
Dr. McGougan, the count]? phy
sician performed au operation on
the prisoner this afternoon, tak
ing from the abscess on his lung
over a pint of pus. It is impos
sible to tell whether the man will
live'until the day set for his exe
cution or not.
