Mr. Dorsey Pearson of Wilson,
N. C., has accepted a position as
flagman on the A. C. L. with head
quarters at Florence.
Rev. J. I. Ayres of Ebenezer is
in town to-day. Mr. Ayres, who
has been quite sick, is looking
well and strong again.
Mr. F. L. Willcox returned home
last night after a pleasant stay in
the mountains. Under the recup
erative power of the bracing
breezes Mr. Willcox is himself
once again.
Mr. J. D. Swopes has arrived in
the city and has taken cp his fall
and winter quarters at McCall &
Jones’ stables. He has brought
in a beautiful lot of horses suita
ble for all purposes.
\ Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Douglas ar
rived in the city on Saturday even
ing and were cordially greeted by
many friends. Mrs. Douglas, nee
Miss Lizzie Blanche, will be pleas
antly remembered in Florence,
having visited our city in times
that are gone.

To-day.
It is useless to speculate further
upon it. Florence is taking long
strides forward as a tobacco mar
ket. Another splendid sale was
held to-day, and there was no fall
ing off in the prices. Those who
sold tobacco went away satisfied
with the results, and will come
again. No fancy prices were paid,
but the averages were good.
Among those who sold to-day
were Col. R. G. Howard, Mr. 8. A.
Gregg, Mr. S. W. Ham of Carters-
ville, Messrs. W. E. Nettles, W. A.
Myers, E. M. Harrell, and several
Lake city planters.
About 15,000 pounds were sold.
Mr. W. E. Dargan,oue of Darling
ton county’s largest planters, was
present and he said he never at
tended a better sale. And so it
goes.

deserve a funeral notice in the

The Daily Timks went to press
at 2 o’clock yesterday and there
fore it was impossible to get in a
full and detailed report of the
Labor Day proceedings. Some
things were left out, and we give
them to-day.
At nine o’clock yesterday morn
ing Mayor W. H. Day, on being
introduced by W. H. Wells, Esq ,
heartily welcomed all the visitors
to our city. The Mayor spoke
from the balcony of the Central
hotel, and to the immense crowd
beneath he extended the privileges
of oar city. Then followed the
parade, a general description of
which was given yesterday.

handsomely mounted, acted us
marshals and to them is due
all credit for the smoothness with
which everything passed off:

. The Hope engine and the Hook
and Ladder truck were beautifully
decorated, and the merchants of
Florence surpassed themselves
in the tasteful and appropriate ar
rangements of their fioats. Among
the most striking was the adver
tisement of thei Florence tobacco
market. Col. Hill was on board,
and surrounded by the buyers he
gave a splendid exhibition of how
tobacco is sold. The others were
as follows:

two pickaninnies peacefully re

ing, etc.; a beautiful float from
which hung lace curtains in grace

unique and striking advertisement.

clothing, etc.; several ladies sat
here as upon a throne shaded by a
huge Japanese parasol.
