Hindoos in the plague district
are employing many devisee to
elude the officials in seeking for
plague cases. 0:nt man who had
died was set up at a table with
cards in his nauds, while his
friends sat around him making
believe that they were playing a
game- The stolid expression on
the corpse’s face led one oflicial to
put his hand on its shoulder, when
it fell over to the floor. In Yella
Reddi two girls were dying. Their
relatives cut their throats and
buried the bodies before the com
ing of the officials.

Our Fellow Townsman, Mr. A. W. Moon,
Will Publish Gleanings From Bis
Many Travels.
The Prospectus and several
specimen pages of Mr. Moore’s re
markable book are on our table.
The book willcontain two volumes
in one—First Part—“A Tour
Across The Continent” with other
matters of interest, 1891-2.
The first thing attracting atten
tion in glancing over the specimen
pages is the fine double-column
portrait of James H. Carlisle, L.
L. D., the venerable President of
Wofford College. The specimen
pages show a great versatility of
style, sometimes rising almost to
the poetic, and sometimes becom
ing light and humorous.
Th« second part will consist of
the History of Pythiauism in the
United Stater and Canada, with
theelaborate Historiesof theGraud
Lodges of the Southern States,
beautifully embellished with por
traits of the officials of the Order.
Both parts of the Book are thor
oughly Pythian in spirit—its lead
ing principle in both volumes being
•‘Charity” and the Biotherhood of
man.
Mr. Moore as every body knows
is a persistent and efficient work
er in the cause of Pythiauism, and
the Printers and Binders, the
Daggett Printing Co., Charleston,
S. C., are enthusiastic Pythiaus.
We are gratified that both Charles
ton and Florence are giving to
Mr. Moore such a very generous
subscription.
Below 1H
and his book: '
“Mr. A. W Moore, ever active
and energetic, is again on the can
vass. Mr. Moore has traveled the
country lor many a good bookand
has made large sales of all his un
dertakings, but at present he has
the best book he has
yet offered and the one that will
gain the largest subscription list.
The book is not only sold by Mr.
Moore but is made by him which
is equivalent to saying that it is
full of good things.
The book is printed on 80 pound
book paper and is profusely illus
trated. It is bound in cloth, half
morocco, and morocco. The speci
men pages show it to be a fine
work. In epitome the book is A.
W. Moore which means that it is
everything one could desire.”
