Miss Sarah Barringer is visiting friends at Mars Bluff. Mrs. La Coste Evans of Cheraw is visiting in the city- Gen. Richbourg came in this morning from Columbia. Mr.Sigmoud Phillips, formerly of this place, passed through last night on his way north. Mr. A. H. Dagnall, of Winona. ! passed through last night on his ! way home from Kingstree. Mr. J. P. Derham chief clerk in the Comptroller General’s office was in the city last evening. Mr. Julian Pendergrass went to Kingstree last night to visit his mother who is still qnite ill. Messrs. Tom Gregg and Chal mers Johnson, of Mars Bluff, have returned from their visit to Ben- nettsville. Mr. Harrell of Marion has ac cepted a clerkship at the freight depot. Mr. Harrell took charge yesterday. Thu Congressional Itaee. The congressional returns so far received show that Johnson and either Norton or Ellerbe will be in the second race. There are seven counties in the 6th district, Claren don, Darlington, Florence, Horry, Marion, Marlboro and Williams burg, and the vote aggregated stands as follows : Johnson 2,522 ; Norton 2,206 ; Ellerbe 2,028 ; Mc- Laurin 258, Bigham 223, Bryant 215- Speaking of the result the News and Courier says : “The returns indicate that the second primary will be between Johnson and Nor ton, although the vote in Williams burg may get Ellerbe in the second primary.” SENATOR McLALKIN. Wilkins and children left last night for a visit to Man ning. Miss Janie Wheeler niece of Judge Smith is visiting at his home. Miss Annie Davis has accepted « position with Mr. Penny for this season. Mr. Sol Loeb has gone to Charles ton on a visit to his brother Mr. Lee Loeb. Mr. Eli Gasque a prominent Marion Merchant, was in the city last night- Miss Cora Fryer, of Leliaton, Ga., is visiting Mr. A. J. Fryer, at Forestville. Mrs. W. R. Barringer is visit ing her father Mr. John S. Scott at Mars Bluff. Mr. F. E. Hashageu of the firm of Vollers & Hashageu, passed through last night on his way to Hartsville. Mr. Gal.loway has resigned his position as chief clerk in Mr. Jus tice’s office, his place being taken by Mr. H. K. Gilbert. Capt. W. J. La Motte formerly a conductor of the A. C. Line, has been appointed assistant yard master at this place. Mr. Julian Harby, traveling representative of F. W. Wagner & Co., Charleston, was here yester day drumming our merchants. Messrs. R. Boyd Gasque, W. S. Foxworth, A. B, Nichols and E. B. Utley, Marion merchants, passed through last night on their way north. Mr. Walter Stackhouse, a prom inent young lawyer of Marion, passed through last night on his way to Greenwood. Mr. Stack- house intends to practice law at that place. Mr, B. H. Rucker left for New York last evening. Mr. Rucker expecte to purchase the largest stock of dry goods and notions ever brought to Florence. Watch for his announcements. Johnson’s Chill and Fever Tonic Cures Fever In One Day, This morning’s News and Cour ier contains pretty full election re turns, the total vote foY senator reported being 44,0112. - A few pre cincts throughout the State are yet to be heard from, but the total vote cannot be much over 50,000 if that. McLaurin has received 28,658, Evans 10,263, Irby 5,111. Mo- Laurin’s majority 13,284. Re turns to be received will probably add to McLaurip’s vote. According to the returns the op position has carried six counties, Aiken, Colleton, Greenville, Lau ren’s, Spartanburg and Union, and McLaurin’s majority in Flor euce county alone lacks less than 500 votes of wiping out this. McLaurin is elected. Miss Lizzie Harllee will re-open ler school on Sept. 15th. Central locality. Aug. 2 3 1m. Miss AddieCottingham, who has -been on a visit to Dillon, returned home last night. Mr. Walter L. Wilson, editor of The Lamar X Rays, was in the «ity last evening. Mr. W. M. Hanna, the well- known tobacco drumm^j^ spent yesterday in the city. Tobacco Sales. Eight or ten thousand pounds of tobacco were sold to-day, and those who sold it went away delighted. The average price paid was about 14 cents a pound. A prominent planter was heard to say. that to bacco is bringing higher prices here than anywhere he has been. This speaks eloquently. Bring your tobacco to Florence. Notice Sale. For Congress—Johnson 414, Norton 323, Ellerbe 230, Bigham, 189, McLaurin 12, Bryant 4. For Probate Judge—McNeill 481, Clayton 396, Shipp 214, Welsh 64, Cooper 31. For Judge ot Pronate there will be. a second race ’ be tween McNeill and Clayton, as an exAmination of the vote will ehow. McLaurin’s majority in the coun ty will be about 900.
