Johnson passed through our city last evening. Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Janies are in the city spending the day. Miss Agnes Carpenter left last evening for a visit to Darlington. Miaa Daisy McCall, of Darling ton. is visiting Miss Mary -Me Call. ' Mr. B. W. Bu^et returned from the North last ’ evening, looking quite well. Mr. Willie yesterday al through the Mrs. J. C. Bfutiscn left, last evening for Columbia on a visit to her daughter Mrs. Thomas. Miss Hattie Rucker/'who has been visiting relatives at Sandy Run, returned last evening. Judge Watts and family of Che- raw passed through the city last evening on their way home. Mr. E. C- Watson of Marion, is in the city spending the day with his brother, Mr. I. E. Watson. Mrs. Henry Husbands and chil dren returned from Prosperity, Newberry County, last evening. % Miss Bessie Brunson, of Mars Bluff and Mr. Harry Jervey, of Charleston were in the city yes terday. Messrs. Edward Sumner and Ro land Howie, of Hartsville, are vis iting the family of Prof. T. N. Rhodes. . Misses Clara Chase, Lucy Evans and Bessie Heard returned yester day from a pleasant visit to Dar lington. Mr. W. T. Heard accompanied by his little daughters, Aline and Sadie, left this morning on a visit to Augusta. The friends ot Mrs. Arthur M Butler will be pained to know that she is quite ill at her home in East Florence. Mr. Albart Williamson of Dar lington is visiting friends in the city. M iss Daisy Phillips of Lake City who has been visiting Mrs. L. F. Adams, left this morning for a visit to Timmonsville. Mr. C. K. Johnson of Mars Bluff, returned last evening from Mayesville, where he attended the funeral of Miss Mattie Mills. Mr. J. F. Muldrow returned last evening from the North. Mr. Muldrow says that he will soon be followed by a beautiful stock of goods. Miss Lillian and Master Woodfin Neeley returned last evening from Macon, Ga. A State AiMociuttou Formed tn Greenville— All Companies Invited tu .loin, (New* and Courier.) Greenville, August 25.—The South Carolina Volunteer Fire men’s Association was organized here to-day. A constitution was adopted for the guidance of the Association and the following officers were elected for the ensu ing year: President, J. O. Cauble, Green ville; vice president, George W. Brunson, Orangeburg; secretary, Dr. L. H. Peebles, Greenville; treasurer, Dr. B. J. Ouattlebaura, Winnsboro; statistician, J. R. Haynes, Greenville. A commit tee was appointed to procure a charter, which will be done at once. The Convention adopted a resolution inviting volunteer fire companies in the State to join the Association at once. The asso ciation adjourned to meet next year at Orangeburg on the first Tuesday in August. REAL ESTATE TRANSFERS. On Tuesday he was able to be up and went out for a little airing. Tue express office at Chad bourn was robbed last night and this morning a telegiam was received lere asking that the blood hounds )e sent to the scene. At once the city hounds and the three blood- lound pups of sheriff McLendon in charge of Messrs. Jno. E. and J. T. Dennis were taken to Chad- jouru. This is the first trip of the pups and of course the Sheriff is anxiously awaiting an account of their initiation into the trials of the chase. We venture to say they will be have nobly. Excursion Rates. bays the News and Courier: “The Atlantic Coast Line has announced excursion tickets for Norfolk, Richmond and Washing ton, for September 1 to4 inclusive. McIntyre died this morning at his home near Claussen after an illness of only a few days. The funeral services will be held at Hopewell church to-morrow morning at 10 o’clock.
