The Veterans of Florence County Have %
Glorious Time at Mulrirow’s Mill.
The veterans of Florence county
had a great and glorious time at
Mnldrow’s mill yesterday. They
had a basket pic nie, aud what
with a happy remiuiscential iutur-
course, a swapping of yarns and a
bountiful repast, they enjoyed
themselves as only those who
stood shoulder to shoulder in
ranks can.
About sixty veterans were pres
ent.
Talks were made by Col. K. W*
Lloyd, Dr. J. F. Culpepper, Dr.
P. B. Bacot and Mr. W. E. Mc-
Knight. Mr. T. J. Powers—
“Tom” Powers—, a one-time engi
neer on the Coast Line, was there,
and with some of his good old war
stories he furnished rare entertain
ment for the company.
The death of the old hero,’ Gen
eral Samuel McGowan, was re
ferred to mote than once during
the day, and these veterans to do
donor to his memory appointed
Col. Lloyd, Dr. Culpepper, Dr.
Bacot. and Mr. McKnight as a
committee to draw up a set of res
olutions
During the day the question of
truthful history was freely dis
cussed, and, as a matter of course,
the unanimous opinion was that a
history doing full justice to tha
South should be written.
In the afternoon the veterans
went home glad that they had
been there.
