For the Citizens of Florence.
To the Editor of The Daily Times:
Having been solicited by a num
ber of friends who have the best
interests of Florence at hea^t, I
respectfully announce to the citi
zens of Florence, through the col
umns of your paper, that I am a
candidate for the office of Mayer.
I wish to state emphatically,
that I am not a candidate of any
particular party or faction, and
that I am not offering myself on
any particular issue, but my plat
form is, as it always has been, for
good government, low taxation,
economy, good roads, a proper,
just and equal assessment on all
real and personal property, enforce
ment of the law's, and special
privileges to none.
I claim to have the interests of
Florence at heart, being a tax
payer and property owner, and, if
elected, my endeavors shall all be
centered on the upbuilding of
Florence.
My record as an alderman for
the past three years stands for it
self, and, if the line of policy as
indicated above, is what the citi
zens of Florence desire, I ask for
their suffrage at the coming elec
tion. Respectfully,
Howard L. Odiorne.

Laurada left Baltimore on Satur- r ® diction ’ aud to provide for the
day and the tug with her tow lay l aj P 011 - m0Ut of its officers and to
off Barnegat until to-day when
the sea moderated enough for the
cargo to be discharged into the
Laurada’s hold. The Laurada’s
cargo is said to consist of 7,000
rifles; 1,/00,000 rounds of ammu
nition, 25 tons of dynamite, 500
machetes aimI ^ ajp^/iy
medicine aud surgical instruments.
It is reported that the Laurada
will return in a few days as soon
as her cargo aud passengers are
transferred to another vessel.
Another expedition is said to
have left the New Jersey coast near
New York on the steamer South
Portland, whicli sailed on Satur
day ostensibly for Barraquilla,
Central America. The vessel is
reported to have been chartered
by the Cuban Junta at S100 a day
and security for 125,000 was given
to indemnify the owners in case
the steamer should be lost while
on her voyage to Cuba. Her car
go is a large one, including about
1,500 tons of war material. She
also carries about 100 passengers.
The South Portland was formerly
the British steamship Caroline
Miller.
The Bermuda is also off the
Long Island coast ready, it is said
to carry au expedition which left
New York on Sunday for Block
Island, where the transfer is to be
made. Thus far, it has been im
possible to receive the cargo on
board, owing to the heavy sea
running in the sound.
New York, March 2.—The cap
tain of a tug arriving iu this port
to-night reports that when off
Barnegat to-day he sighted a
steamer, which he believes was the
Laurada. A 3-masted schooner
and a lighter were beside thr
Laurada, unloading goods onto
her. It is presumed that the
steamer is setting out on a filibus
tering expedition to Cuba.
The United States revenue cut
ter Manhattan left Battery pier
to-night for Barnegat, aud if any
arms and ammunition are feund
on board she will be seized. It
was also said that the tug Volun-
