passed through this city this
morning, and stated to a News
and Observer reporter that the
contract with Bryan had been sold
by Mr. McBee at an advance of
$25,000. Mr. McBee, who was
here to-day, refused either to con-
firrn r deny the story. The pur
chasers are an Atlanta syndicate.
“It h s been published that we
are to g.ve Mr. Bryan $50,000 for
fifty lectures,” said Mr. Comstock;
“but the truth about it is we are
to give him a great deal more. It
is a great venture, but it will be a
great financial success. My prin
cipal trouble is to keep the tickets
out of the hands of speculators.
Only yesterday I received a tele
gram from a fellow in New Or
leans saying that he had just sent
me $1,000 for a block of seats. I
wired him back that the tickets
were on sale at the regular place
in New Orleans, and he could get
them in the regular way, at the
regular price. The money has not
reached me yet, but when it does 1
shall simply send it back at bis
