Congress will take no holiday recess on account of the unsettled State of affairs in the country. A son of General Anderson, on the Federal side in the civil war, died in Charleston on Saturday. The President will issue his proclamation on the 4th, of Jan uary, declaring Utah a Stale of the Union. The President’s message lias been received with enthusiasm by the people of Venezuela, and in proportion to the love they bear the United States, is their hatred of the British. A ycung man was arrested in Wilmington last week, on a charge of having murdered his father-in- law in this State. It seems that his father-in-law lived in Wil mington, but the young man was unfortunate in bearing the name of the man wanted. The Colleton murder case is said to look worse than at first and 't^he brutality of the treatment suf fered by the victims were made more apparent by the investiga tion by the officers. The better class of citizens where the outrage was committed, are anxious that those engaged in it should be brought to trial and punished as their crime deserves. Some of the Eastern and North ern cities are becoming uneasy about the prospect of a Cotton States exposition in Chicago, and accuse the South and West of com bining to deprive them of trade. The Southern cities are in favor of it however and so is Chicago, and it will probably be held. There is no doubt that it will prove a great advantage to Southern interests, by showing them to the world. In Florence, S. C., Dec. 12, one small hay horse was stolen weigh ing about eight hundred pounds, about twelve years old with heavy mane. A reward of $20.00 will be given for its return to mii mi: I \vills>el! ou easy terms, monthly payments if preferred. House and lA>t. corner. 100 feet on Miller and 128 feet on Evans Street.
