McMilliau, Jr., returned last night from Atlanta. There wihl be a meeting of the city council at 7.30 this evening. There are a great many school children in the stores and on the street to-dav. You can see people going back and forth to-day with bundles in spite of the rain. They are going to put new col umns in the round house as the old ones are rotten. If you wish to have turkey for Christmas now is the time to put him under lock and key. The school closed to-day at 11.30 for the holidays which will last two weeks, ending January 6. They are loading a car with cot ton seed which will be sent to the Cotton Seed Oil Mill of Columbia. Mr. Daniels, who has been work ing in the A. C. L. shops, left for his home in Columbia this morn ing. Machinest Joe Freeland is spend ing the day in Gibson, working on the turn-table which was taken from Sumter. Andrew Godbold a colored deaf mute, while walking on the rail road track near Sellers, was run over and instantly killed yesterday afternoon. The baby of Mrs. Alex Sessoms died yesterday afternoon and will be buried at the Fraternal ceme tery at 3 o’clock p. m. to-day. The parents have the sympathy of the community in their loss. J. W. Rike bought a turkey and put it in the yard with his chick ens to fatten. The turkey and a rooster got into a difficulty and came to blows. The rooster get ting the better of the turkey hurt his feelings so badly that last night he died from the effects. Beforelthe Mayor. The case of R. C. Snipes which was continued from yesterday. Snipes said and had witnesses to prove that he had permission to -shoot fire crackers in the lot, from a policeman and shot some before him. The mayor said as there seemed to be some misunderstand ing he would dismiss the case this time with thfe understanding that he would not do so any more, but that he would not take any more excuses of that kind and author ized the chief of police to select some extra police to help find out those shooting fire crackers and hiding. Ordinance. Sec. 1 Be it ordained by the may or and aldermen of the city of Flor ence in council assembled and by the authority of the same. That it shall not be lawful for any per sons to fire off cannons, guns, pis tols or any kind of fire arms, an vils or torpedoes of any kind with in the corporate limits. Sec. 2 And it shall also be un lawful for any person or persons to set off or explode any kind of fire works, bombs, rockets, or any thing of the nature of fire works within the corporate limits of the city. Sec. 3 Persons desirous to set off or display fire works of any kind whether within the private enclosures or updn the streets of the city must first obtain permiss ion to do so in writing from*, the mayor. Sec. 4 All persons violating this ordinance or any part thereof shall be fined not less than $1 nor more than $5 or to be imprisoned not less than 3 days nor more than 10 days at the discretion of the mayor. We have published in this issue the paper the the ordnance, pro hibiting the shooting of fire works <»r fire arms in the city limits. Latta Locals. E. D. Al.en, of Gallivants Ferry was in town Monday. R. . McMillan, of Tabernacle, was in town Monday. D. W. Biggs has returned from a trip to Southern Georgia, Miss Ida Rogers, of Little Rock, s visiting friends in town. Miss Alice McMillan, of Marion, is visiting relatives in town. R. J. Beard, our clever section master is visiting his parents at Beard, N. C. We are sorry to learn that A. H. Brown is soon to leave town and locate at Sellers. Mrs. Nannie Rose and Miss Eugenia Williams, of Mallory, were in town shopping Monday. J. O. Stalvey, of Marion, for merly known as “Bill Nye,” is vis iting his sister Mrs. A. H. Brown. We are glad to note that Mrs. E. Bethea, who has been quite* ill for the past few days is convales- ing. J. D. Bethea near town killed a pig a few days ago which netted him 380 pounds. Pretty good for “Buster.” Our town is still booming, and who knows but that it may yet be the second Birmingham, of the South? S. B. Crawford, who has been quite sick for the ^past week, has resumed his position at J. J. Bethea’s store. We are sorry to learn of the ill ness of A. B.
