Gus Hoffmeyer and daughter, Miss Julia are in the city to-day. Arthur McCall, in Mr. Hoffmoy- j er’s store, has almost no voice to- 1 day. You should take advantage of the free foot ball games the teams have been giving the past week or two. S. W. Goodman, of the firm of Goodman Bros, of Philadelphia, Tnakers of crash suits, is spending the day in this city. Lee Rosenthal formerly a part ner in the Racket Store here but who has charge of their store in Sumter is visiting Florence to-day. Mrs. Annie Justice, mother of D. J. Justice, is visiting her son in this place, and is accompanied by Miss Lottie, his daughter. They will visit a brother of Mr. Justice in Waycross, Ga., before they re turn to their home in Raleigh. Morion Smith was in town to day, representing the Atlanta Evening Journal, to see the al leged Will Myers, and identify him, if possible. He says he does not resemble him in the least par ticular. The man has been re leased. Mr. Frank Daniels, formerly em ployed at the car shops here, wish es The Times to correct the state ment, made yesterday, that he had resigned. He says that Capt. Day and himself had a few words in re gard to some work and that the former, exercising his right, dis charged him. Some one last night went to the back of Mr. Allen’s store pried open the blinu and broke a pane of glass so they could remove the stick that was over the window. They stepped on a showcase that was standing on end near the window and went through it, they got away with a few r pair of shoes but nothing else has yet been missed. Gregg & Lynch have in their window a Christmas tree that makes the little folks very enthu siastic over the prospect of having one of their own. It nearly fills one of the big windows and is cov ered with bright red berries, and is laden with toys, and other things to make it attractive. It will bo sold on Christmas day, the firm says. Go and see it. The ladies wonder how it is pos sible to select such an immense stock of Xmas, goods and all so pretty as Gregg & Lynch now have. Christmas Tour. A special train containing the Princeton University Glee Club passed through and stopped here for breakfast this morning. They will go from here to Chatlestou and will visit most of the promi nent cities of the South, among them Atlanta, before they go back. There were seventy on board, and they are making a Christmas tour out of it. They will give enter tainments at every place they stop. See that lovely Xmas, tree in Gregg & Lynch’s window. Two more of those handsome lamps unsold at Gregg <fc Lynch’s. Notice- The city ordinance calls for col lection of taxes from Sept. 10th to Nov. 1st, of each year. The coun cil has extended the time to Jan. 1st 1896. All parties should pay up by that time or the 15 percent, penalty will be added. No other extension will be granted. E. H.
