LOCALS IN BRIEF. SHORT PARAGRAPHS OP HOME HAPPENINGS. Personal and General Mention of Home Polks and Others Whom we all Know. Judge J. P. McNeill is quite ill. George Lee, JK, is on a visit to Florence. J. W. Cooper spent yesterday in Columbia. P. A. Willcox, Esq., returned last night from Atlanta. Jacob Elmore, of Lynches, call ed on The Times to-day. Mrs. J. K. Weatherford arrived this morning from Columbia. B. M. Truluck and S. E. White, of Motts Bridge, were in town to day. E. T. Elliott and R. S. Churchill, of Dillon spent yesterday in the city. Miss Singletary and the Misses McCall are in Charleston for Gala week. Mrs Elliott and family were among those bound for Charleston this morning. Remember the foot baU game that you had an invitation to, at 3.30 to-morrow afternoon. There were a number of people who went to Charleston this morn ing, among whom were Mrs. W. W. Clement, Miss Daisy Bacot* Fred die Wolff and Mrs. W. C. Atkinson and three children. That Fire Alarm. The fire alarm last night and all the excitement was caused by one of the chimneys in the residence of Capt. James in East Florence. Mrs. James had thrown a small paper bag into the fire which set the soot on fire. Some one saw it and gave the alarm. Before the Mayor. P. O. Matthew’s arrested for being drunk, disorderly and curs ing. T. L. Allen for trying to rescue Matthews while under arrest. Dick McIntyre for being drunk disorderly and cursing. Walter Jackson for being drunk and disorderly. William Berry cursing and dis orderly conduct. Matthews was fined $5 or 10 days, Allen and McIntyre each $2.50 or 5 days Berry $2, Jackson, $3 or 6 days. All paid their fines except Jack?on, who was busy hunting around for the wherewith al! to do it, when the reporter left. DISSOLUTION. The business of James Allen A James If. DeFee, a prominent farm er of Motts Section, was killed by his horse, Friday last. His death causes many to grieve. Saturday night D. M. Hook was taken suddenly ill but last uight was better, though is still confined to his bed. James McMillan, son of F. W. McMillan, who has been down with typhoid fever for about 3 weeks, is improving. Mrs. L. R. Brazell, Miss Sarah Rose, Willie Cole and John Powel, spent yesterday in Cartersville, visiting Miss Ada Connor. Miss Mamie Hepburn, of Eb- euezer and Miss Christian Smith, of Little Rock, are visiting the Misses Napier, of this city. Mrs. Dr. J. H. Blackwell spent last night in Florence and left this moruing for Charleston, where she will spend about a week. There was a freight train wrecked vesterday on the N. E. Road, a few cars were smashed up, some of which were loaded with oranges. E. S. Lathrop has resigned bis position as private secretary with G. G. Lynch and R. C. King, of Wilmington, has taken his place. Mr. Lathrop goes to the Salem mills an the Northeastern road, where he will take a position with Thomas Wilson as bookkeeper and private secretary. t fto Timmonsvilie Church. Tl.e commission appointed by the Pee Dee Presbytery consisting of Rev. Messrs. J. H. Dixon and D. M. Fulton and Elder W. E. James, met in the Methodist church and after a sermon by Rev. D. M. Fulton, proceeded to the or ganization of the Timmonsvilie Presbyterian church, Rev. J. H. Dixon presiding and W. E. James acting as clerk. Letters of dismission were re ceived from Fair Hope church for Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Rose, from Florence church for Mrs. John McSween, Duncan McKenzie, Mrs. G. W. Hancock, W. H. Keith and Jno. McSween. Jno. McSween and W. C. Rose were duly elected and installed "elders, having been previously or dained. Duncan McKenzie and W. H. Keith were elected, ordained and installed deacons. The commission then adjourned. J. H. Dixon, Chairman, W. E. James, Clerk.
