C.. WEDNESDAY EVENING DEC. 4 1895. The President’s message is a very lengthy ou«». Durraut will probably receive sentence on Friday. Charleston is busy with her prep arations for Gala Week, which will be on a lavish scale. Our next International exposi tion will probably take place in the city of Mexico, in 1896. The poor children, of Charles ton, are to have a Christmas din ner provided by the ladies of the day nursery. Secretary Herbert asks Congress to make appropriations for two more battle-ships, and twelve tor pedo boats. The circus business is now con trolled by Mr. Bailey, who has ad ded Sells Brothers’ to Forepaugh’s and his own. A Russian child is dipped in the water at its baptism, instead of being sprinkled, as in the case with infants in our country. Judge Townsend was presented last night with a gold-headed cane by the constables, for his work in their behalf in the dispensary cases. More gold mines have been dis covered in Colorado between Idaho Springs and Central City, with an assay cf thousands of dollars to the ton. There is not as much sympathy felt for the Sultan of Turkey as the poor man is entitled to. A fellow who has six thousand peo ple in his household and four hun dred cooks to keep an eye on is en titled to a good deal of allowance for bad temper, &c.—Wilmington Star. He is pitied, if he has to keep peace between the wives, new and old, with one added every year. Gov. Altgeld, of Chicago, bitter ly attacked President Cleveland at a banquet given in that city last Saturday night. It was after a response to the toast “the Presi dency of the United States.” He was hissed. It is to lie hoped that the Salu da Sentinel will receive the sup port it deserves trocn the new county. It is a good paper and it would not show' proper enterprise on the part of the citizens if they did not support it. Col. Ingersol, when interviewed in Minneapolis in regard to the prayers offered for his conversion on Thanksgiving day, and whether they W( uld be answered said: “Oh, we will have to wait and see what will be done. I suppose that God is busy with all the peo ple’s prayers of Thanksgiving and has not got around to my case yef We will have to wait and see what will be done. If these prayers are effective, then the Eudeavorers ought to go after Grover Cleve land. His message reads like he needs it.” Her Composition- A little girl in Boston wrote a composition on boys. Here it is: “The boy is not an animal, yet they can be heard a considerable distance. When a boy hollows he opens his mouth like frogs, but girls hold their tongue till they are spoken to, and then they answer respectable and tell just how it was. A boy thiuks himself clever be cause he can wade where it is deep, but God made the dry land for every living thing and rested on the seventh day. When the boy grows up he is called a husband, and then he stops wading and stays out nights, but the grown-up girl is a widow aud keeps house.”— Ex. Farrell & Edwards, the popular photographers of Florence, are still at their elegant rooms over Bult- man’s store, where they have the best light in this section of the State and the best instruments furnished by manufacturers. Give them a call and “secure the shadow ere the substance fades.” Neglect of the hair often destroys its vitality and natural hue, and causes it to fall out. Before it is too late, apply Hall’s Hair Renew- er, a sure remedy. In an emergency, Ayer’s Cherry Pectoral takes the lead of all other remedies. For the relief aud cure of croup, whooping cough, sore throat, and the dangerous pulmon ary troubles to which the young are so liable, it is invaluable, be ing prompt to act, sure to cure- ITLANTIC COAST LINE.
