The Nsws In Penlel* Poniel, December, I. I urn going to move as soon as I ran sell out. * lotion has all been picked, aud ne-.rly all marketed. Sf*me of our most progressive farmers are through sowing oats. Robert McLaughlin and wife w-.kii shaking hands with friends at Ct ''raw last Sunday. Tb«» fight the ether evening oc curred within a mile of my house Suppose I had been hurt. Mr. Gasque, who was elected to teach for us the coming year, be gan his labors last Monday the 25th. T w^nt him who visited “Peniel I outers” to come from .behind his onsourity and give us at least his sobriquet. Rev. Willig was in his pulpit on Sunday morning and administered the ordinance of Baptism in tin* afternoon. John G. Jordon has the finest calf I have seen. They claim that it is just one year old, and some think that it will weight 800 pounds. Our young men seem to vie with each other in studying music. Most of them have provided themselves wiuh guitar and violin, and I now expect to hear “music in the air.” While in Timmousviile recently I would not acknowledge that the ville was growing much, until they pointed me to the stone pal ace then I had to •Mess the corn.” Mrs. Anna Atkinson, of Darling ton, wnile on a visit to her mother was taken suddenly ill, but baf* recovered so far that she was able to return to Darlington last Wed nesday. , Old Bill is trying to keep u - with the fashion, first had a three ply esse of grip, afterwards a donblco and twisted case of brok en bone tever, and he now finds himself with a sore throat that promises to be troublesome. On Thanksgiving day .Snllie baked a ham and some “talers” and I got some sugar out of the bottom of the last year’s sorghum barrel, and you bet we had a good dinner. Sallie can be right smart when she tries. The young folks who assembled v at J.‘ T. French's on Thanksgiving eve, spoilt a very enjoyable time, I had a special invite but George drove old possum that’s my old horse oft* to take his “Jnne-bug” and the only transportation left for me was to ride mu ley bare backed so I declined to go but I learned that the young ladies pres ent were Misses Kate Watson and Joe Norwood, of Greenwood; Snow, Ward, of Darlington, Claudea Purvis, Bertha Morris, Mattie Auderson, the young ladies wore dressed very pretty, but I cannot give any of their costumes. The young men were dressed in tho latest style. Mr. A. Howard, prince albert coat, Bowing mus tache aid broad smile; B. Mc- Call, cutaway coat, hair pompa dour style; Ashton McKnigbt, tooth-pick shoes, clean shaved, bangs; Millard Purvis, patent leathers, cutaway coat and small nittbtache. The lady served re freshments at 10 o’clock. Music was abundant and they tripped the light fantastic until the “we sma’ ” hours. 1 have devoured turkey and cranberry suuce at Mr. French’s more than once, and know whereof I speak, when I say Mr. and Mrs. French know how to entertain their guests. Two of ray neighbors. Deacon Bill and Layman Purvis got into an altercation one evening last week, they used frail poles, “ugly” language and pitch forks. Mr. Purvis was pretty badly hurt. These bretheren have been acting a little spiteful one to the other for some time, but just why they should take .a notion to display their agility and fistic al ility in the presence of thei-r families is hard to understand. They both have interesting intelligent fami lies and I think it rather a bad ex ample. I think that fighting is inhuman, tin .'bristian and cari only be justified when done strictly in self defence, in fact I think it unconstitutional. Bill. The Shakers have made a gro:?!. hit. Their Digestive Cordial is said to be the most successful remedy for stomach troubles ev-^r introduced. It immediately, re lieves all pain and distress aft^r eating, builds up the feeble system and makes the weak strong. The fact Js, foods properly digested are better than so-called tonics. Xho Cordial not only con tains food already digested, but is a digester of other foods. Fo’.d that is not digested does in> ro harm than good. People who u-» ■ the Cordial insure the digestion of what food they eat and in lhi : way get the benefit of it and gr» v strong. The iirtle pamphlets which the Shakers have sent druggists for free distribution, contain much interesting information on the subject of dyspepsia. It is nothing but Castor Oil made palatable.
