SMALLBR YIELD OP CORN PER ACRE 1922. ; IJ. 13. Hare, Agricultural Statistician in South Carolina for the Division of Crop and Dive Stock Estimates, U'. S. Department of Agriculture submits below estimates pertaining to crop conditions and crop yields November. X "The average yield o*" corn in South * V Carolina this year is 14 bushels per acre last year, 19 bushels in 1020 and 17 bushels in 1019. The total production approximates 29,442,000 bushels, or 3,555,000 bushels less than last year, although there was* an Increase in planted acreage of 80.000 acres oven. ( Ihil* nf 1 0" 1 The substantial decrease in yield is due to excessive rains in May and June, making? it almost impossible for farmers to cultivate early plantings and causing much of it to drown, whereas late plantings suffered for lack of rain in August and September. The rainfall from January 1 to July 1 ^ was a little above 34 inches, or Only 13 inches less than the nomal rainfall per annum. ; ' Quaity of corn Is only fair there being much complaintto effect that, corn weevil is doing considerable damage. Estimated production of corn for entire United States is 2,896,000,000 bushels, against 3,080,000 bushels last year, the ten-year average being 2,830,942,000 bushels. Production of oats, irish potatoes, < sweet potatoes, tobacco, sorghum for sirup, peanuts, wheat4and hay, together with estlmatoH for 1921 will be (1 found in table below.
