liTTTIiK THINGS IN THK NEWS.
Orangeburg Sun.
A porusarof the press of the country
brings to light some strange
things. Been user they are jieculla
they become news. While some of us
are inclined to doubt tjte authenticity
of some of the dispatches we read us
a rule they are based upon fact.
(rlancing over a paper we. recently j
, read of a father who chained his j
daughter by her wrists to the rafters !
in the attic of her home in an effort j
to nuikc her conduct herself properly
in school. He was of the nut order.
Nevertheless he was some better than
the father who committed suicide too i
late Previous to blowing out his own j
brains, he took bib three little chil- !
v
dren and drowned them In the bath- i
tub of his home. These two examples'
of fatherly devotion should make us j
realize taht the human race produces j
queer specimens.
\ ' .
Another exhibit is a husband in 11- j
linois who spent ten days in jail be- ;
i I
t*iusc he spanked his wife on a boat j
in the presence of two men and four '
i
women. The quarrel was caused by tlje ,
' dUscovery ol' the husband that his wife
had bobbed her hair.
A more peculiar and consequently a
newsier domestic quarrel is reported I
front ClenovH, Switzerland. A young.
Italian bride, in her first fuss with her
hubbV. tlll'OW a Bible at liim flnrinir I
their honeymoon, and the ldo>v caused j
his death.
Front' Kgypt wc hear of the confession
of throe men who admitted dray- j
Kins the beautiful young: widow front I
the grave of her husband and hacking !
her body to nieces. Their idea was'
to 'prevent her front marrying again j
and thus fall .to properly revere the
memory of her departed spouse. It
is likely that their plan met with sueeess.
Some of the strange happenings reported
in Ballenger, Texas, was of a
big cat who killed a big rattlesnake
as it was about to strike the children
of the house. The cat struck with its
claws and retreated before the snake

In McKees Fall, Pa., a vicious mule
fastened its tcclh to the leg of a num.
The animal heia dn like a bull do*. A
j terrific whipping failed to move the
I mule, which was only knocked insensible
with a maflet, and its jaws had
to be pried open to allow the unfor!
tunute limb to escape.

A citizen of Valparaiso. Ind., stop|
ped on a railroad sidetrack to watch
i a burning; car. A pausing train threw
him into the burning car, and he was
burned to death.
I Some dry agents raided a saloon in
Baltimore, Md. A mob of one thousand
people threatened to kill them, j
wrecked their automobiles and ston- !
ed the saloon with bricks. It took the
police and several others to scatter the
mob.
A resident of Chicago wished to
commit suicide, but never found the (
no rye to' take his own life. He finally
got a revolver and fired live timesover
a policeman's head. The police
man killed him with a bullet through
the head. ' t
Another idea for .those who may
wish to depart this life from Crown
Point, Ind.* 'Phis time a man possessed
enough courage to put on his cltesi
a stick of dynamite, which-turned upi
his toes when it exploded.
After reading the above samples,
you ought to have little difficulty in j
llelieving its true what you read in the
Orangeburg Sun.
We have often wondered what kind
of liquor the guy drinks that spells
the names of Pullmav cars.
