COUNCIL FOR FARM WOMEN.

Wnmen in the Lexington high school
auditorium Saturday. September 23d.
at 3:30 p.- m. Miss Mary C. Wingard
presided over the 'meeting: and led the
devotional exercises. *
The jnatter of adopting a constitution
was brought feeiore the council
and after the reading of the one
recommended by the state headquarters.
It was adopted. Henceforth we
as a council have a definite purpose
and aim to woilc toward. May we
come near grasping our goal before
the year closes. Another subject
which was discussed at length, was
that of purchasing a life membe ship
A in the woman's building, which s to
a* erected on the state fajr grounds.
The corner stone of the building will
be "laid during the fair this year and
after its completion will be used by
L_ the farm women for, the exhibition of
their products at any time during th^
year. It will be of special use to the
out bf town women, -not only for their
v exhibits, but as a meeting place. A
day nursery will be connected with
the. building. It was agreed that

subject of poultry raising in a veryinteresting
and beneficial manner.

to letters which are being received
at headquarters. The association
is now making an initial advance
of 12 cents a .oound on short staple,
old and new cotton .and 18 cents a
jx>und*cn long staple, old and new.
The first fire to occur in association
cototn was in L?ee county Monday^afinAn
when some cotton belonging f
to L. D. Welch, of Elliott, was burned
enroute from the gin to the depot.
Mr. Welch notified the assocaition
Tuesday at noon of hi^. loss and Wednesday
at noon the association had a
cheek from the insurance company
for the cotton.
