In addition to having the chicks hatched early, it is most important to keep the chicks growing, so that they will reach maturity and start laying before cold weather. Too much care cannot be given the .growing stock, l'or from these birds the breeders are selected, and your profits are made. Housing: Growing chicks should be provided with a house that will give them a place to stay in bad weather and at nights. No definite style of house is ^recommended, but one should be built that will provide the chicks with ample ventilation without draughts dryness, plenty of sunshine, and so arranged that it can be easily and frequently cleaned. The houses"should t>e built so they can be moved from place to place, thus providing fresh ground for the chicks to range over. Care should be taken not to crowd the chicks by placing too many in any one house. As they increase in size, they should be thinned out and placed i a in other houses, so as to avoid ! -crowding. Free Range: Plenty 01 free range should be provided, if the chicks are to make rapid, vigorous growth. Confining the; checks to a limited range not only in- j creases the tendency to disease and slew growth, but increases the cost of feeding. Shade: Plenty of shade should be provided for growing chicks in order that they may thrive and grow in hot weather. k . i i. T? i ? This tremendous saving to the enI tire automobile industry is made in 1 i i ! the face of a determined effort by 1 British and Dutch merchants to con! trol the rubber markets of the world. Cotton, which is the biggest element in tire cost, is materially rising in price, and in the face of increasing world consumption: with one of the smallest hold-over crops in years and 1 witn oniy a normal crop in prospect it is bound to go much higher, but the Goodrich price reduction is made in spite of these increased costs. A conservative estimate of the automobile tire bill for the United States for 1922 places it at over half a bil- j lion dollars, which means that the j Goodrich tire reduction in price will ! save American motorists over $50,000.000.
