WEDNESDAY. FEB. 22, 1922.
/' DAY CURRENT.
One ot Lexington's greatest needs
at present ife a 24-hour tjlectVic current.
- Many business concerns and
individuals in town are now handicapped
to a great extent for the lack
of a *sufta'ble" day power, ant^ this in v~-v
-; convenience... c$n be overcome only
with electricity.
, f .Capital cannot, be expected to furf
' j' \ H- X' ' v .
' . ' Irish this hecessit.v unless the people
of the community get behind the
proposition wholeheartedly and agree
to use a sufficient amount of current
to at least make, the enterprise selfsustaining,
and if the people will
pledge themselves to that amount it is
. ' understood that the Lexington Electric
Light company will make the
. f* necessary improvements at its .plant
( to furnish the power.
Day current will not only be a
great heli> to the business concerns of
Lexington, but the housewives will
also be benefitted to no small degree.
Many homes will use ? electric fans
during the summer months and electric
irons all the year, and there are
numerous other ways in which to
? benefit by the us6 of the service.
Other towns in South Carolina no
larger than Lexington are supporting
sucjv an enterprise, and there is no
good- reason why Lexington should
not. Let's get together on this proposition
and have continuous electric
current. What say YOU,

TAX PENALTY SOON.
The additional 6 per cent penalty
on taxes will begin after next Tuesday,
and those in position tp pay up
now should do so and save themselves
the additional cost. Already 2 per
cent penalty is being collected and
jvith next week 5 per cent more will
be added, making a total of 7 per
cent, A bill has been passed by the
leglslautre extending the time for paying
taxes, but it has not been signed
by the governor, and until it is, the
present law will apply, and there is no
assurance that he will sign the new
hill. Should the new bill become law

IN MEMORY \
(Sunday's Record.)
Now one little seat is vafcant, ,
One little desk is bare} ,
His litle form no longer seen
Which always hovered there.
We miss the smiling little face
And shniing eyes of blue,
The bright, happy, childish laughing
j And words always so true.
Our teacher lingers near his seat,
. With eyes in misty tears;
While all in deadly silence sit,
With sympathizing fears.
But we know, dear little Wallace,
That you are far above.
Perhaps looking down upon us
With eyes o'er filled with love.
We always shall remember you.
As you were here with us
And hope some day to see you there
When leave this place we must.
