IN MEMORIAM
In loving remembrance of our dear
mother, Elizabeth Berry, daughter of
John and Mary Shumpert, born No- ,
vember 2, 1843, and departed this life
/September 3, 1921, In infancy she '
,was consecrated to her Heavenly
: Father by the rite of Holy Baptism,
and early in life she was confirmed
in Cedar Grove E. L. church (Lexington
county) moving from the community
of her childhood days and '
coming into a new section. She transferred
to St. John's E. L. church
(Black Creek, Lexington county) becoming
a charter member of this con
gregation. She was a faithful member.
About two years ago she became ill
and since that time slcKn^ss has prevented
her worshipping in the House 1
of the Lord. But frequently her pastor
has beerf to her home and there
administered to her spiritual needs. 1
A Christian life we miss in our
home, a loving mother no longer
mingles with her children, and the
presence of her face we shall never
see again upon earth.
About 48 years ago she was married
to John E. Berry, and they were
blessed with two children, Mary Lucas
and Boyd F. Berry, who now
mourn her death. She was also the
step-mother of the following children:
Sallie Spradley, Jerome Berry,
William Washington Berry, who has
gone before her. Her ashes are at
peace and her soul is at rest in Christ
the Lord.
Sickness came?long years of suffering,
slowly did she fade away,
And her face grew fairer, purer, more
unearthly every day,
'Till at last one Saturday eve., smiling
like she was at rest,

By the days' of loss and sadness that
have come since mother died.
For the joy and sweetness which her
presence gave our home;
Only makes the loss more bitter, now
that we are left alone.
i
Though I know that she is happy,
with the ransomed saints above,
Oh, how gladly would I purchase just
one smile of mother's love,
Just one gentle word of kindness.
Just.one kiss, if nothing more.
Yet we all will one day meet her in
a home more bright^^an this,'
And our grief and loss and sadness

Next to meeting Christ our saviour
greater joy cannot be given
Than to find that in those mansions
will be mother, home and heaven.
' i
Mother, I would not call you back, for
you have gone to dwell in the
house or the l^ora;
That mansion not made with hands,
where sorrowr nor pain can enter
in, to bind with iron bands.
I would not have you, mother dear,
suffer as you did in your earthly
pilgrimage, ;
Throueh this vale of woe, though our |
hearts ache and we are bowed
with grief,
'Tis better thus we know.
We try not to think of you as dead,
my mother dear; we know you dwell
in your heavenly home; we'll join you
there when Jesus bids us come.
SON BOYD.
