A TIMELY LETTER.
, The Dispatch-Xews is printing this
5
i vweek an article from the Aiken* Jourto
3
. % nal and Review, which is a copy of a
letter written by Circuit Judge Hayne
. : < F. Rice of Aiken and addressed tc
the board of trade of his home town,
V N
It is so full;of ^good-sound common
sense and real patriotism that we are
calling especial attention to it, and
trust it will be read by every person
who receives The Dispatch-News.
Judge Rice voices what this paper
has said on several occasions?that
the problem before the people of
South Carolina today is largely to b
solved by the closest cooperation of
all the people. He rightly says that
;.v while our farmers have knowledge
S
sufficient to enable them to grow successfully
any crop that can be grown,
they lack the machinery for the successful
marketing ot their products.
Such machinery can be largely furnished
by the business men of the
' ' state other than farmers. They have
* .< .
the greatest opportunity and the gravest
responsibility which has ever confronted
them. Upon the manner in
which they avail themselves of thi<
opportunity and perform that dut>
* . will rest the prosperity of all alike
Plans must soon be made for nexi
year's farming operations. If there ij
to be any concerted action on the pari
of business people in South Carolins
to secure for our farmers THEIP
OWN HOME MARKETS it must b<
had very soon, in order that adequat<
nronaratinris mav be made by th<
x- ? ?
farmers.
It would be a good thing*if the letter
of Judge Rice could be publishet
in every paper in the State.
J
THANKS.
The newspaper game is one in
which the monetary rewards are oft
times not in proportion to the servic<
.rendered. But it frequently happen;
that there are other compensations
which are of greater value thai? men
money. Sad to say they are ofttime;
few and far between. When the news
paper says or does something tha
folks-don't like it comes in for a goo<
deal of cussing, but most folks an
t
,x not quick to express their apprecia
tion. For this reason The Dispatch
News was particularly gratified to re
ceive two letters this week whicl
were encouraging. In one a value<
subscriber who lives in another state
and who missed his paper, took oc
casion, in asking to have another* sen
j him, to say that he felt utterly los
, without the weekly^sits of'1 the ol<
i Jiome paper. Anotaer xeLttrr'conveye*
' , the welcome news that the paper hat
4 ;h become so popular at one of th<
x county's live schools, where some oi
the pupils had earriecfit several times
that it was decided to subscribe for- ?
copy to be sent to the school. It ha?
been the policy of The Dispatch-Newi
to do everything possible to fostei
ar.cl help the development of the
school system of the county. Th?
subscription from this school is ar
earnbst that the work is being appreciated
.
Y/e thank our friends for their
* .
kind' expressions.
