T V UX/X1JUUX/1A A j y v ? ? , PARTY GIVEN IN CHAPIN B\ MISS BVSHARDT On last Friday night. July S, Miss Kathleen Bushardt gave a party which only the fortunate ones attended. Those present were: Misses Pearl, May Belle, Ella Rose and Mary Shealy, Tommie and Susie Chaffin, Lucile Stoudemire, Pearl Lee and Wilder Counts, Adelaide Fulmer. Ethel Eargle, Rosabel Boozer, Pearle Frick; Messrs. Robert Hiller, Loy Senter, Willie "Williams, Dorr, Alonzo, Hoy and Horace Shealy, Jesse B. Wessin ger, Jennings stouaemire. ri-usseu Derrick, Homer Eargle, Lewis Wes1 singer, Harry and Enoch Frick, Rayford and Elbert Huffstettler, Frank Boozer, Various games were played, after which refreshments were served. Mr. Harry Wes^mger and Miss Lu- 1 cile Stoudemire won the prize in the flower contest. All enjoyed Miss Bushardt's hospitality. "SIT" AND "SET" ? ! * Probably it is impossible to teach the great majority of Americans the difference between the two words "sit" and "set," but grammarians have been trying to do s'o for many years. "Come in and set down," says one's host. He is hospitable, but his grammar is faulty. He should say, "Come in and sit down." "Whether a hen sets on a nest or sits on it is not certain, in grammar, since the point is disputed, but it is quite certain that you do not "sit" a hen on her nest; you "set" her there. It is incorrect to say: "Hie vase sets on the table"; say, instead. "The vase rests, or stands, on the table." Do not say, "The flagpole is set firmly in its socket." If you prefer, you may say, instead, ''The flagpole sits firmly in its socket." No. 8133. Kaminer, one of Lexington county's thrifty farmers, who was in town Monday, informed The Dispatch-News that he had been lighting the boll weevil ever since the pest first made his appearance on his place. He was one of the first to try the molasses-calcium arsenate poisoning: and after checking results reports that he is of the opinion that he has the hug unaer gouu cuhuui and will make a good crop regardless of him. Mr. Kaminer asks The Dispatch-News. however, to warn farmers that the calcium arsenate will poison not only boll weevils but animals as well and to urge that it be used with caution and stock be prevented from browsing and drinking water that has been contaminated with the weevil poison. "It Looked Like a Battlefield in Europe," Said Mr. C. Dunster. "Was staying at a hotel in a small Pennsylvania town. Early one morning I went to the stable to hire a rig and was shown a pile of dead rats killed with RAT-SNAP the night bef fore. Looked like a battlefield in Europe." Three sizes. 35c, 65c, 51.25.
