AN ORDINANCE
To levy a tax on taxable property
within the town of Lexington, to provide
the time for payment thereof,
and to iix penalties for failure to pay.
Be it Ordained by the Town Council
of the Town of Lexington, in J
Council assembled, and by the au- ?
thority of the same:
Section 1. That a tax of five mills
be and the same is hereby levied
jupon all the taxable property within
the Town of Lexington for corporate
purposes, the same to be paid to the
Town Treasurer on or before the 30th
day of July, A. D., 1921.
Section 2: That any person failing
or refusing to pay said tax by the
above date shall suffer a penalty of
ten per cent, of amount due as taxes,
and all costs of collection.
Section 3: That in case of'the failure
of any person to pay said tax,
with the penalty thereto added, within
twenty days after the above* date,
execution shall issue against the
property of the persons so defaulting,
as is provided by law, and all prop
erty levied on, under execution issued,
shall be sold at public auction, before
the court house door, in the town
of Lexington, after three weeks public
notice tehreof, and the proceeds
of said sale shall be applied to the J
payment of said tax, penalty and
costs: provided that if such property,
so sold at public auction, shall bring
more than enough to satisfy said
tax, penalty and costs, the remainder
shall be paid to the legal owner
thereof.
Section 4. That it shall be the
duty of the Town Clerk to have this
ordinance published in a newspaper,
having general circulation in the
town of Lexington, for three consecutive
issues before the date fixed
for the payment of the tax, and, also,
to have copies of same posted in
three conspicuous places in said town.
Section 5: This ordinance shall
take effect immediately.
