PI McCartha has returned to her home after spending a pleasant week with Mr. and Mrs. P. D. Steele of Columbia. Mrs. L. C. Price recently spent the day with Mrs.'Orin Lindler. Miss Girlie Keisler spept Sunday with her cousin, Miss Ethel McCartha. Mrs. Bessie Keisler spent a short while Saturday afternoon with her friend, Mrs. Beulah Crout. Mr. and Mrs. Julian E. McCartha and little son, Adair, spent Sunday with the former's parents, Mr. C. P. McCartha and family. AMICK'S FERRY NEWS. 4 The farmers of this section are very r much worried over the present conditions of prices, as cotton is a low / price, and groceries and dry goods are sold at such advanced price, but listen, Mr. Farmer, we must live at home and board at the same place. Mrs. Baskom Brownlea and two little daughters, Rachel and Virginia, of Laurens are spending some time with parents and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W .D. Hollis and family. Mr. H. . R. Amick of Houston, Ala., is spending some time with mother, brother, and other - relatives of this section. Mrs. Floria Hendrix spent Monday with her sister, Mrs. Alma Kyzer. Miss Clarice Harmon dined with Miss Rosa Harmon Sunday. Mr. Alfred Fulmer and good lady recently visited the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Fukner. Mr. Pickens Wessinger and daughter, Miss Sallie, spent Sunday at Mr. Archie Keisler's. Mr. Julian Franklow and his best girl were out riding Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Haskell Wessinger visited relatives in the Sand Hills Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hendrix visited at Mr. D. Job Harmon's Sunday. . NEWS OF EDMUND. The three weeks drought was broken last Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons by good rains and crops have made a great improvement in appearance and growth since. With a few exceptions, corn had ' turned vellow and had almost stopped growr ing and cotton was not growing as it should for lack of rain. In this immediate section cotton is young by reason of a severe hail storm just when the farmers had begun chopping the early crop. Most farmers replanted to cotton, getting better stands than from the earlier planting. Reports of boll weevil are general and some are apprehensive over the outcome, while others seem to think we have no more boll weevil than we have liad in the last several years. Acreage has been reduced greatly here, the application of fertilized more so, and if the boll weevil gets in his reduction, we shall come out at the little end of the horn, if we get out at all. After a week's outing at Reeder's pond the Girl Scouts have returned to Columbia. They were in charge of Miss Adele Minnahan and Miss Minna Robertson,^ both of whom are connected with the public welfare board of Columbia. Miss Louise Griffith left lafet Thursday for a two week's visit to her sister, Mrs. R. L. Ford, at Lake View. Mrs. Saphrona Jefeoat is spending" some time with her son, -Mr. G. "W. Jefeoat, near here. . Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Baehman and children spent Saturday night and Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. D. S. Taylor, at Macedon. Mr. Abram Stork and children visited relatives in Columbia Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Crout spent Sunday with relatives in and near Gilbert. Master Christopher Corley has returned home after spending a week with his grandmother. Mrs. S. C. Reeder. Mr. W. N. Lucas and his son. Perry, made a business trip to Lexington Saturday. The threshers are making their rounds and say they find an increase in the acreage of grain sown, but that the yield per acre is below the average due to the late frost we had.
