NEWS OF EDMUND.
The three weeks drought was
broken last Tuesday and Wednesday
afternoons by good rains and crops
have made a great improvement in
appearance and growth since. With
a few exceptions, corn had ' turned
vellow and had almost stopped growr
ing and cotton was not growing as it
should for lack of rain. In this immediate
section cotton is young by
reason of a severe hail storm just
when the farmers had begun chopping
the early crop. Most farmers replanted
to cotton, getting better
stands than from the earlier planting.
Reports of boll weevil are general and
some are apprehensive over the outcome,
while others seem to think we
have no more boll weevil than we have
liad in the last several years. Acreage
has been reduced greatly here,
the application of fertilized more so,
and if the boll weevil gets in his reduction,
we shall come out at the
little end of the horn, if we get out
at all.
