I ROBBERS AT WORK

Batesburg, April 4.?A thief entered

; Saturday night and Monday morning
?HBk
and robbed the store of between forty
fee?5

IV&V taken from the cash drawer, which
was securely locked. The cash reg>"
ister was badly damaged, as there
was no other way of securing the

- drawer. The entrance to the building
was effected by forcing an opening
thorugh the door facing Granite

The recent cold spell has consid;
orably damaged the grain and fruit
{ crop of this section.
] Our farmers are rather late with
their work on account of weather
conditions and the difficulty of securing
fertilizers for this season. Very
few have finished planting corn or
prepared the cotton land. The acreage
in cotton will likely be cut at
least 50 per cent in this section.
The faculty, and student body of
Summerland college worshipped at
the Baptist church Sunday morning.
On Sunday night, the Easter cantata
by the choral club of Summerland
college was repoduced at the Baptist
church. The club was assisted by a
number of the best male voices of
Batesburg and Leesville, Miss Vilda
Divers, the vocal teacher of Summerland
college, directed the music. The
rendition of the cantata was a credit
to the institution and was appreciated
by one of the largest audiences ever
assembled in the church.
