Planting time has about arrived and some of our farmers have their land ready, whfcle others are somewhat backward, but we hope all will try to | make their hog and hominy at home, : and not depend on cotton too much. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Shumpert and children from near Edmund were up visiting Mrs. Shumpert's parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Taylor, and other relatives, Saturday and Sunday. Messrs. J. D. McCartha, J. C. Ballington and W. H. Keisler motored to Leesville Saturday on business. Keisler's Sunday. The Rev. Mr. Obenschain delivered ~ * - a. a very lorceiui sermon at ou .u<nthews Sunday from Mathew 21: 8, 9. Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Keisler, who got his hand caught in a gin some weeks ago, is much better and we think in a few weeks he will be able to use it again. Messrs .H. N. Kaminer and B. H. Barre of Lexington came up with Rev. and Mrs. Obenschain and children and worshipped at St. Matthews Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Steele visited their son, Mr. Sidney Steele, Sunday, at Lexington. The Keisler school which is being taught by Miss Pearle Landrum of Aiken county, will close next Friday ] with some exercises, commencing promptly at 7 o'clock P. m. Misses Ethel and Blanch McCartha spent Saturday night at Mr. J. A. Crout's. Most of the farmers of this community seem to be cutting the cotton acreage about one-half, and thus reducing the fertilizer considerably. We think this would be a wise plan for the whole cotton belt. TOMMIE HUMPBACK. His physicians issued a death certificate, arrangements were made for the funeral and Saturday's newspapers published eulogies of him. The funeral has been postponed in- j definitely, as the doctor said the llev. I Mr. Baudenbacher might live many years. New Orleans, March 20.?Physicians at a local hospital today decided to furnish a complete record for medical journals of the case of Ben Hoelzel, 50, who died Saturday after living 26 hours with his heart exposed to the eyes of the hospital surgeons. While working in a local coffee grinding plant Friday Hoelzel's left sleeve was caught in a machine. His arm was mangled and a piece of flesh the size of a man's head was torn from his breast, leaving his heart exposed, the ribs directly over that organ being torn away.
