ill by horses
?:<-or moles, or by any live stock until?
they are well matured or frosted. As
the leaves, vines and pods decay but
slowly when subjected '. weather
conditions, velvet beans whl furnish
feed until early spring. It is usually
better to let the crop stand until it is
well matured, or until it is killed by
frost as the leaves will be off the
plants at that time and the corn
which l.as been planted at the same
time may be gathered with less difficulty.
The amount of grazing which will
be afforded will, of course, vary with
the growth of the crop and the quality
of corn not gathered, but it is the
cuq^om with many cattlemen to allow
one third to one half acre a month for
each steer or cow. The usual period
for pasturing velvet beans is about
three months, but this may be shortened
or lengthened as deemed advisable.
When the period is longer
because of large acreage in proportion
to the number of cattle there is (
necessarily some loss of leed through
decay.
Hogs should be permitted to fol- j
low cattle, as they will consume prac- j
tically ill the beans which the cattle !
fail to get. A common practise is to
allow one or two hogs in addition to !
the cattle for each acre of beans, a
good stand of velvet beans should
. produce about 150 pounds of beef and
100 pounds of pork an acre.

WHAT 20C COTTON

IN WAY OF LOSSES
Washington, Jan. 28.?Cotton sold
at 15 cents per pound means a loss
I of $386,000,000 to the producers of
jthis year's crop. Even at 20 cents the
loss would be $65,000,000. Representative
W. F. Stevenson, of Cheraw, .
has prepared for The Record the following
interesting table showing the
expense of the crop of 12,483,000
bales comapred with the receipts
from cotton, including cottonseed at
30 cents per bushel:
Expense.
{Labor $ 699,943,500

Fertilizer 248,839,020
Land rent 169,800,000
Ginning 77,058,000
Total $1,465,443,520

i?r. Stevenson estimates that the
expense of producing a bale of cotton
is $114.10 or 22.82 cents per pound.
Cotton at 15 cents would mean a loss
of $39.10 per bale, at 20 cents, $14.10

"California Syrup of Figs" is
Child's Best Laxative
Beware! Say "California" or you
may not get the genuine "California
Syrup of Fig9" which d^gtors recommend
for babies and children of all ages.
Nothing else cleans the little bowels and
regulates the child's stomach and liver
so gently, so thoroughly. Directions
on each bottle. But you must say
"California." Don't be talked into an
imitation fig syrup which hasn't the
delicious, fruity taste or the perfect
"laxative physic" action.

CARDUI HELPED
REGAIN STRENGTH
Alabama Lady W&* Sick For Three
Years, Suffering Pain, Nervous I
and Depressed?Read Her
Own Story of Recovery.
Paint Rock, Ala.?Mrs. C. M. Stegall,
Of near here, recently related the following
interesting account of her recovery:
"I was in a weakened condition.
I was sick three years in bed.
Buffering a great deal of pain, weak,
nervous, depressed. I was so weak,
I couldn't walk across the floor; Just
had to lay and my little ones do the
work. I was almost dead. I tried
every thing I heard of, and a number of
doctors. Still I didn't get any relief.
I couldn't eat, and slept poorly. I
Relieve if I hadn't heard of and taken
Cardui I would have died. I bought
six bottles, after a neighbor told me
what it did for her.
"I began to eat and sleep, began tc
gain my strength and am now well
and strong. I haven't had any trouble
since ... I sure can testify to the
good that Cardui did me. I don't
think there is a better tonic made
and I believe it saved my life."
For over 40 years, thousands of wo?
men have used Cardui successfully,
in the treatment of many womanly
ailments.
If you suffer as these women did,
take Cardui. It may help you, too.
