He worked untiringly for his j store in Winnsboro and success icrowned his efforts. At the end of five years, he decided to come to a [larger place and so moved to Columbia and opened the store which still bears the same name. Air. Mimnaugh devoted his time to his store but he had faith also in Columbia real estate and dealt in it, owning at the time of his death a large amount of property. He was the first president of the Carolina Bond and Mortgage company, was president at one time of the Farmers and Planters Trust company, anc 'was formerly a director in the National Lo^n and Exchange bank. At. the time of his death his only office [held in any business except his store [was that of director of the .'Standard I .3 'Warehouse company. j' Mr. Mimnaugh was a born mer' chant and he achieved distinct success in his chosen field. Landihg in American with hardly a dollar in his pockets, he first saved, and then invested, and he saw his business grow to large proportions. Wanted to Be Merchant. When Mr. Mimnaugh moved to Coc lumbia in lSSS.^e was prompted to do so because he wanted to be a !merchant, not a shopkeeper, and he believed that in Columbia there was the opportunity to be a merchant. With this faith in the capital city, jsvhich was not nearly so large a city ias it is now, Mr. Mimnaugh came here and opened his small store. Later his place was burned and then he moved to the southeast corner of TAX NOTICE. The handsome Mimnaugh store at the northwest corner of Main and Hampton streets is the result of his small beginning as a merchant in Columbia. / About one year after Mr. Mimnaugh opened his first store in Columbia, an adjoining store failed and Mr. Mimnaugh bought it out. cut a 'hole in the wall to join the stores and thus began the expansion of his bus- , iness. j Mr. Mimnaugh had a large number ; of acquaintances in Columbia and in j South Carolina who will regret to j learn of his death. His condition had since improved. It was his hope and the hope of the family that he would soon be able to be out and about again. He had recently been in such good spirits and was looking so much better that his loved 'ones felt much encouraged. K's death yesterday morning therefore-, was a double shock. He had been talking to his son, conversing about various matters, when he was suddenly stricken, dying in a few seconds.
