Washington, Jan. 2.?As a result oi
the petition of David F. Houston, j
secretary of the treasury, President
Wilson has definitely concluded to j

which would have restored the war j

the resolution through congress that

GOVERNOR COOPER WILL
I RECOMMEND 7 MILLIONS

| (Columbia Correspondence News and
Courier.)
| Columbia. S. C., Dec. 23.?The state
j budget commission will recommend:
an appropriation of approximately
$7,000,000' for the operation of the:
state government, its departments and i
institutions for 1021. This will be a;
1
I decrease of about two and one-half

approximately 14 mills on a valuation
of between $44S,000,000 and ?450,]
000.000 in tangible property, as estimated
by the state tax commission.
This levy, however, could be reduced
: because of the moneys from other
isources which must be turned into the
state treasury under the budget law.
.
i "I have not yet completed my study

tails." stated Governor Cooper, chairIman
of the commission today, when
i
!'questioned relative to the tax agita!

recommend a reduction of appropriaj
tiens from, the year, 1920, with the

j wants of the state along permanent
lines, a commission of engineers j
should be appointed to make a thorough
study of the wants ol each institution
and activity and report in

Along this line it can be aiuhorita'
