WRITES OF FLORIDA.
To the Editors of The Dispatch-New?:
Well, we arrived here on Wednesday,
the 3d, at 5:55 a. m., schedule
time 011 the Seaboard, where we found
'our son-in-law, Mr. Kio Uoblnson,
awaiting our arrival. A few minutec
drive in his new Dodge car brought
j us to his nice, comfortuble home al
No. 101 Howard street, where wc
again alighted and found our sick
daughter, Annie L.ou, much bettei
than we expected, but still quite sick
1 in bed. Today we think she is or
the mead, although she says that sht
is no better.
We two old folks stood the lon(
and tiresome journey on the railroac
fine, neither of us getting sick ir
the least on the trip. Had a comfo.
table berth on the Pullman, when
ve could enjoy the scenery as w<
sped along through South Carolina
Georgia and Florida. From Fairfax
S. C., to Jacksonville, Fla., the farm
ers all seem to be in a very prosper'
ous condition from the numeroui
stacks of hay and shocks of corr
in the many fields along our route. Ii
they are providing for themselves a:
well as for their stock I think theii
wants will be but few. Here in the
surrounding country in Hlllsborc
county around Plant City the farmer!
and crops, consisting mostly ol
strawberries, cabbage, lettuce, turnips
squashes, egg plant and Irish pota
toes are all in line condition ant
looking well, .with the tine seasor
now upon them. Oranges are too nu
morous to mention and are being
packed and shipped as fast as thej
come in, by five or six packing house;
here in the city. The packers eari
from live to twelve dollars per day
and it is quite a curiosity to see then
at work. The fruit is washed, driet
and assorted by machinery, bu
packed by hand.
flowers of all kinds and colors
are now in full bloom here, some ol
them very beautiful and fragrant

I Will not attempt to describe others
> as they are too numerous to mention
I and would occupy too much space
, for me to do so.
i The cotton crop through So/ith
; Carolina and Georgia along the Seat
board?road seems to be about two
? thirds harvested. However, I noticed
: several 'ar?p fields wtyte as snow and
seemed as though not a boll had
: been picked. Sweet potatoes still uni
harvested and the vines black from
? the deadly frost, which seemed 1 to
be more destructive than at home, alr
though it is further south.
I Under existing circumstances we
i aire enjoying ourselves as well as
. could be expected. On account of
? the illness of our daughter we stay
> with her the best part of our time,
t only riding out in and around the city
, for a few miles drive for exercise.
.''Yesterday, however, Kle drove us to
. Laelandl about 12 or 14 miles disi
tant from Plant City. % It is a most
Y beautiful drive over a hard, smooth
r asphalt road and the scenery on the
5 route is magnificent. lakeland is a
. very lovely place, surrounded by hills
; and beautiful lakes and is filled with
, Northern and . .-orthwestern tourists.
5 The city has several magnificent
r buildings, the school building and the
nice little Lutheran church, which
. were mostly admired by us. The pop
I I ulution is tfrom the appearance of
, I everything around about twelve or
. fifteen thousand. '
, The weather is still very warm
. here and is raining today, which is
a favorable to the strawberry crop,
, which is beginning to, bloom, and if
i nothing happens will be ready to be- ,
, gin to pick by the first of January.
I | 1 am sending with this a few clip,
pings from the Plant City Courier,
from which you may select a few
. items which will be of interest to
j the farmers and business men of our
county.
, As soon as our daughter gets better
we. will visit Tampa, Palmetto,
' Bradcntown, Manitee, St. Petersburg,
and perhaps other places of note in
I Florida.
| Will close for the present and
i write .you again before our return
i home next spring.

FARMERS BEAT DOW MARKET;
-MAKE WO^i INTO BLANKETS.
Farmers of North Carolina, asslated
by a representative of the United
States Department of Agriculture,
and the State College of Agriculture,
have found "that there are more ways
than one to dispose of wool. They are
having their wool manufactured into
blankets and expect to sell the blankets.
About 15,000 pounds of woo>
produced in North Carolina has been
handled in fhls manner.
The bottom dropped out' of the
wool market for North Carolina.
inroe wool Bales which were to be
held at Washington, Greensboro, and
Csheville were abandoned, due to the
fact that there was no market for
the wool at prices acceptable to the
farmers. After the sales were canceled
a large manufacturing company,
with establishments at Win=
ston-Salem and Eilkin, was interested
in the proposition to make up
the wool of indlvidu&l farmers into
blankets. A representative was stationed
at Ettkln to receive the wool.
Each consignment was weighed,
graded, airtl a report made up showing
