TAXCOIiLECTORS VISIT
' BATESBURG TOWN
Treasurer' C. El. Deaphart and
Auditor W. D. Dent were here Friday
collecting taxes. Taxes along all
lines seem much higher "this year
than formerly and. many'.of our taxpayers
owing to the financial condition
of the country have postponed
the payment of their tax for the
present. Unless relief in some way (
is given our people the time is not far
distant when it will be with diHlculty
that many of our people will be able
to pa^ the taxes -imposed. It falls
heavily upon some of our business
men this time on account of the business
depression prevailing all over
the country.
Thanksgiving was observed by the
C'AKI) OF THANKS.
We wish to express our sincere
thanks to our neighbors and friends
who so generously remembered uj
with a bountiful Thanksgiving show
cr. Mav God richly bless each of
them.
Mrs. Anna Harman and Children.

PERSONAL* MEDIAITION'
PROFl'ERED ARMENIA.
Washington, Ncrv. 30.?Frosident
Wilson today proffered his "personal*
mediation through a representative
whom I may designate" to end hostll- (

The offer was in reply to an invitation
from Paul Hymans, president of
-he council of the league of nations,
transmitting a resolution adopted in
behalf ofArmcnia by the assembly
i hi*,- h'ukuc ui ueneva Aovmber U2.
It requested that "the horrors of the
Armenian tragedy" be brought to the
attention of the powers with a view to
intrusting some power with the task
of taing the necessary measures to
stop the hostilities in Armenia. The
United States, although not a member
of the'league, was included among the
nations of the world to whom the
broadcast invitation was issued.
Adoption of the resolution was preceded
by some discussion of the feasibility
of organizing an international
force to intervene in Armenia, assailed
alternately by Turkish Nationalists,
the. Bolsheviki and other Trans-Caucasion
enemies. In his reply, however.
Mr. Wilson said he was without
authorization to offer or employ the
military forces of the United States isTHAT
