* C. H. Moreiield, state highway engineer,
has received a chart sent out
by the government to the state highway
commissions indicating the
amounts of money apportioned tor the
different states for road improvement
and progress made. The chart shows
that South Carolina must have' total
agreements signed to the amount of
$2,900,000 or thereabouts before June

In the first two years after the institution
of the federal aid small progress
was made, and this year as much
money must be put on the roads as
in the past three and double as much
as was spent last year.
Soifth Carolina is slightly behind in <
taking up tho proportioned funds as
compared to other states v lacking as
stated aborve $1,160,000. North Carolina
has made good v progress with
only $350,000 left of the year's allotment.
Tennessee runs about as South
Carolina in proportion to its allotment
with $2,100,000 to get rid of before
next July. V' dnia also lacks
$1,900,000 of completing her share,
while Georgia is proportionately far
ibove the other Southern states with
(500,000 left to spend.
Mr. Moorefleld said yesterday that
some counties in the state are slow
